Beretta 92FS, Girsan Yavuz 16, first gun, thoughts?

The girsan is the beretta by almost all aspects. Same factory from what I heard

Actually the Girsan is made in a factory set up for the Turkish government by HK. All the folks working there are HK trained and all of the equipment is the same stuff HK uses. I've never shot the Girsan, but I have stripped both pistols, side by side. The machining quality on the Girsan was better (on the single guns I was comparing YMMV) and it had a much better DA pull, very much nicer than the Beretta.

Another nice thing going for the Girsan is that it uses a steel guide rod as opposed to plastic on the Beretta. It also has a steel trigger unlike the plastic/metal combo of the Beretta. Both parts I changed out of my 92FS. I found the plastic trigger too slippery to my liking.

I'm sure the Girsan is well built but let's be honest, if you get one based on cost, your still gonna see pictures of a Beretta 92 and want it. There is just something about a copy that doesn't fulfill your need for the real deal. The most expensive part about this hobby is feeding your firearm and not the firearm itself so to me for a couple hundred bucks more, i'd get the authentic. Just my 2 cents though.

Agreed, forget the knockoff and get the real thing.

I like the look, and the feel of the gun as it shoots. At the end of the day if the fit, finish and feel is the same or better than the "brand name" original, I'm quite happy to pay less. When I shoot I'm busy looking down range through the sights, not reading "Beretta" or whatever else on the side of the slide. $200 + price difference is a nice little bit of 9mm to start off feeding it.

Insisting on buying the original Beretta is like saying I would prefer a Colt 1911 or an Armalite AR15 because everything else of those types is a clone.

Why? You can get a real Beretta used, like new for 625$-650$ The Beretta, you can sell for the same price in couples of years. The Girsan, well, it will sell used for maybe 375$-400$.

The gun market is finicky. This gun may very well be of fine enough quality that it holds it's value, then again maybe not. As I just posted, different makes of AR15s out there, some better than the original manufacture, some not. Same with the 1911. All hold their value differently.

The only different between the AR and 1911 worlds vs the Beretta 92 world is the number of people doing the cloning. If the Beretta had clones made by as many manufactures as their are 1911s, then there would be better and worse versions than what Beretta makes, and costs would very wildly.

No different than the Norc, SAM, Colt, Remington, Kimber, Girsan 1911 varieties. Everyone has their preferred brands.

At the end of the day "intrinsic qualities" "originality" and "value retention" mean something that falls right between jack and, well, you know. If the gun shoots and is reliable, and stays reliable for 40 or so thousand rounds, with normal maintenance - that's a good gun. They are tools, not jewelry for posers.

I've seen new Berettas for 699, but god help me if anyone on EE sells a Beretta for less than 800.

All about the beretta bro.

If your going to go there do the real thing because in the end you will kick yourself going with the knockoff. They have been the standard issue pistol for the American military for the past two wars and are absolutely awesome I ended up picking up the 92a1 the newest version from 2010 and its awesome. Dont go for the knockoff spend the extra money and have it for many years to come.

That's why I like the Taurus. Not really a knock-off, rather an authorized reproduction made in Berettas old brazil factory with Beretta drawings and die's. Love the rail and thumb safety instead of the decocker and it's a shinier finish as well.

I have a few Berettas, next to SIGs, they are probably my favorite maker. If someone wants to try a Girsan, I say go for it. They seem to be a pretty good value for about $500, people pay almost that for Norinco knock offs that do not look anywhere near as well made as the Girsan does.

Beretta - The Original
Taurus - Licenced Reproduction
Girsan - Reverse engineered, using Beretta toolings but not with the consent of Beretta (from what I just found on the web on US base reviews...)
The MKEK Girsan Yavuz 16 (Beretta 92f clone) is a partially reversed engineered, partially Beretta machinery Turk made Beretta 92f, circa mid 90s model. Pros: All steel guide rod, steel trigger. Cons: 92f model, not 92fs. However, unless you feed it a steady diet of hot NATO, or +P+, you should be fine.

So Beretta had a hand in all three makes at some level. Seems not so much apples to oranges, more like a red apple to a green apple.

Be sure you try out all the popular pistol like the CZ Shadow, G17, SIG 226.

My 92F is on my sell last list as it is my first pistol from the 80's, beautiful pistol but not my best shooter.

Does girsan still have those molded finger grooves? Thats the only thing I hate about them
I have a beretta and nothing will replace it
