Just picked up a nice used 92FS INOX. Took it to the range for the first time with Winchester 147 grain FMJ. I can’t get this thing to group! I know how to shoot a pistol. Have had Glocks, SIG, HK and BHP before and had no trouble shooting nice groups. Any similar issues with these? Do they like lighter grain bullets? What am I doing wrong?

mine was about 10-12 inches at 50m all the time. Then I switched to CZ Shadow and suddenly notice my groups shrink. My Beretta is not too accurate but I still like it

Post your targets.

Also, since the 92 was originally designed as a military pistol, it might like 124/115gr. ammo better? Just guessing. Have you checked the barrel and rifling for defects?

I had a 90s vintage 92FS once and a really good shooter put all 10rds into one .45 cal sized hole at 7yds.

Next chance I get I’ll head back to the range with a few different types of fmj and post the results. I’ll bring another pistol out for a comparison.

115gr, 124gr, 147gr shouldn't affect accuracy to that extent unless the gun or the operator has a major problem. Grouping differs from POA/POI. You can have a gun that doesn't shoot POA/POI but it should still group (e.g. all shots 5" high but grouped together).

You are certainly not the first to have accuracy challenges with a standard 92. It is interesting to note that a customized version for the Army Marksman Unit are some of the most accurate pistols out there. These guys do a similar customization http://www.samscustomgunworksusa.com/handguns/beretta92customwork.html. As others have mentioned though, they are designed for combat accuracy and most shots would be within 10 to 15 yards.

I'm curious to see how the 92X will stack up.

Mine shoots S&B 115gr and 124gr well... actually it's not that picky but Wolf reloads in my gun are inaccurate.(I expect better than 12" at 25y) If you are having trouble getting under six inch groups <35yards it's the ammunition or/and the shooter. My accuracy expectations from any service pistol is 100% in the zero circle on an IDPA target at 25y: naturally one will increase distance, speed and have multiple targets to increase difficulty.

Oh wow seems as though the lighter grain ammo really tightened things up. I’ll have to get back out there soon to try it out. I see beretta makes an adjustable rear sight. Something I may check out if I need to change POI

Beretta 92FS is one of the most accurate steel hammer fired pistols I have ever shot.

Operator error? OP, please post some targets with the pertinent details.

100% my 92fs is a laser and my favorite pistol

I shoot garbage federal Aluminum thru mine and I can get 10 shot 3 inch groups all day at 15 to 20 meters if I take it slow

At 10 - 20 yards tight groups should be attainable regardless of bullet weight. The only concern one might have with 147gr ammo would be plunking/feeding issues. We all know that certain gun/bullet combos group better than others but it shouldn't be a night and day difference. Again, POA/POI differs from grouping. Generally speaking, 147gr bullets will impact slightly higher than 124gr/115gr bullets.

Same gun/distance:

124gr BDX (doubles)

147gr CamPro (medium pace)
