I picked up a 92FS sight unseen recently. It appears to have been well looked after and was nice and clean however no amount of trigger time makes it my favourite. The take-up has an enormous amount of travel compared to my Sig 1911, then breaks nice and crisp with zero over-travel but the reset takes forever and then has almost .20" of take-up before breaking again. I have a number of handguns but this is the only one that gives me grief when trying to fire a quick follow-up shot.

I've looked online and see a couple of trigger kits that focus on reducing the DA weight, but no mention of the loooong reset and pre-travel in SA. Am I the only one that finds it so foreign?

Hi there. Wilson Combat makes a BERETTA 92/96 SHORT REACH STEEL TRIGGER you can order from Brownell’s. Wilson doesn’t ship out of the US. They also make an ULTIMATE ACTION TUNE KIT for the Beretta 90 Series which includes a trigger bar, three different chrome silicon hammer springs and a chrome silicon trigger return spring. All easy replacements.
Langdon tactical also has pre tuned kits he sells. You’ll have to order Langdon parts through I Run Guns which he deals with for shipments to Canada. He doesn’t ship directly either.

I got my tuning kit from Firearms Outlet Canada. They have the short reach trigger. I plan on putting this in mine but I haven’t pulled the “trigger” yet.

There’s a lot you can do to make an already amazing pistol better. Just takes lots of practice to shoot them accurately and overcome that dreaded 7 o’clock impact. Grip position also helps when you find the right grip panels for your hand. I like the slim rubber ones that Hogue makes for Beretta. I have big mitts too.
Without replacing anything, buffing certain components in the right places, like the hammer and sear engagements, the stud on the trigger bar and the head of the hammer strut. With a 12 pound hammer spring replacement, you can attain a less than 6 pound double action pull and 4 pound single action. The short reach trigger will get rid of all that take up.
Good luck with your tuning venture.

I just looked up Firearms Outlet’s price on those and they want $70. before tax. I ordered one from Brownell’s with a few other parts and their price is US $29. and no tax. Whatever the exchange is it’s less anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I support our retailers first and foremost, but that’s too much of a price difference for me on this one.

Aha! I knew there was a solution out there. I really wanted to like it but it's been nothing but meh for me thus far. I put my mitts on as many different handguns as I could and am happy with all but this one. I'll give the short reset a try and see how that works. Thanks for that.

It’ll basically turn the double action pull into a single action feel. They just changed the position of one of the holes on the trigger so it sits further back. Great replacement for the polymer triggers Beretta’s been using these days if you own a recent model.
You should really take advantage of the trigger bar they sell as well. The trigger bar increases hammer arc at the point of sear let off for increased ignition reliability in double and single action mode.

You will never get the same feel as a tuned 1911 trigger. There really is nothing like it. That said, the SRT does make a difference on the 92 Series. I shoot a lot of revolver so the DA pull on the 92's I own are an easy transition. My only gripe are the sights and that is more a function of ageing eyes The 92FS and variants are excellent pistols, reliable and accurate as hell. Not for folks with small hands but just an excellent design.

Take Care

Bob
