Well my PAL is in the mail :D.
I have been shooting a Beretta at the range and really like it.
Please share with me the Good, Bad and Ugly about my intended purchase.

Thanks

Great gun choice! There is only good about Beretta 92FS or M9, bad and ugly will go with the other guns.

Semi-bad: some say the grip/frame is too wide for smaller hands, which I personally do not find. I love mine (just sent 300 rds through it today, actually)

What are you thinking- 92 black, Inox or big daddy M9? (I am biased but what can I say..)

The grip IS a little larger than many guns. I noticed that right away. But for my large to Xlarge glove size hands it fit nicely.

There's a 3 or 4 page thread about the 92fs that is current. You may want to look it up.

Now that the price has came down on them to under $800 IMO it's one of the best quality guns you can get for the money. If you don't have midget hands you should be alright.

Only bad thing I can think of is that it doesn't come with a coupon for free ammo :p

The hammer strikes a bit heavy, the trigger pull in SA is decent and the recoil isnt to bad. I like mine even though it came with a faulty exctractor. I ordered a new one in and the problem was fixed.

I have owned my 92 FS for 18 years and also a 96 for 6 years. I have shot around 100,000 rounds through the 92. I have shot IPSC with it for 16 years. I have gone through a few barrells. I have given the gun a tune up every few years. Wouldn't trade it for any of the 1911 style guns and I have owned a few of them.

You'll probably hear that 92FS is too big for the small 9mm cartridge. Don't listen.
If you want to shoot IPSC it is not the best choice because of double action first shot. This double action trigger is loooong and heavy and there is not much you can do about it.
My verdict: Buy it and enjoy it. You'll not regret.

the only two problems i've ever heard of is the LOCKING BLOck and one of the springs- the locking block you can change yourself, and that's ONLY on the really older 92's ( probably the ones with the heel-catch mag) - as far as it being too big for the 9mm cartridge,it was DESIGNED TO HOLD 15 not 10, and feeds from BOTH sides of the mag- take that into account, and you see why it's got a fat grip- the real bertta 92 design was perfected in the model 51 single stack and the rest have been modifications to bring the design up to date with the changing military market- first 15 shots dictated a wider frame, then changing the safety over to the slide mount, , then adding a second lever to the slide, and finally changing the mag release to suit the americans

Thank-you one and all!

Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to the bank I go ;)

When I figure out how to post pictures (i have a mac) I will share them.

In the same boat, waiting for my restricted upgrade and then I plan to grab a 92FS too. Glad to hear it sounds like a solid choice, my research is paying off.

I guess the beauty about guns is, you can have more than one, and you don't have to keep them forever, so that makes me less apprehensive about taking the dive. There's good and bad about every gun I suppose, just enjoying the good is the key.

I was oogling another shooter's new 92fs and he asked if I'd like to try it out. We quickly loaded our mags and I left him with my CZ Shadow while he left me with his new 92. After shooting two mags from it and lowering the hammer to try out the DA pull I have to say that I didn't find it any worse or better than my Shadow was when it came out of the box for DA and SA pull. Assuming that the 92 will respond to the same trigger treatments as other guns in terms of polishing and switching to a lighter mainspring I don't see why this can't end up being a pure pleasure to shoot and as crisp as you can "tolerate".

How would you compare it to the Shadow? My oldest son claims the Shadow feels too small in his hands, and that 92fs fits better. He never shot a 92fs, only handled it. I'd buy one if it is at par with my Shadow.
