Hey everyone,

was wondering if the barrel for the Beretta 92S (the Italian Police Surplus ones imported by North Sylva) can be replaced by the same barrel as the more recent 92F/FS?

haven't been able to find this information online.

Thanks!

Youza.

why?- is yours shot out or do you wish to replace it for the sake of replacing it- I've had a 92s since about86 or so and it's still going strong- try changing your loads or something first- it's not very often the barrel gets shot out on a 92 unless it's in a rental situation- now to answer your question- as far as I know the answer would be yes-but it seems to be a retrograde step as the 92f/fs is a far more advanced pisto lbut they use the same locking block type mechanism-and i'd write stoeger ( who has the exclusivity in Canada ) before going down that road- if you do decide to proceed get the locking block to match your replacement barrel as that's where the differences are- ie replace it as a unit

Well, I purchased this 92S with plans of getting it completely refinished. I figured I might as well get a new barrel before doing so. The original one is obviously in used condition, and although it may still have some life left in it, it would make more sense to have a new barrel refinished if I can rather than a used one.

when you go to clean it up use brushes OVERSIZE the bore - maybe a 357 instead of a 9mm and generous application of something like ed's red or shooters choice you get a better cleaning- then replace the main spring , the d spring, and the locking block and you'll be good to go- also watch for the safety falling on- with today's 10 round mags it may not happen or it may have been my loads, but mine would fall on about round 11- 13 or more-there's a spring in there that has to be replaced- I use my 92s as a backup and I have a 92f as a primary

Thank you for all this info, very helpful!

If you have gunk in the barrel use strands of 100% copper Chor Boy strands wrapped around a brash brush. It works for lead so it should work on gunk. Then use Hoppe 9 or similar product.

Started to clean up the barrel, it looks like it was gunk. Haven't done the brass brushing yet, but just having some cleaner in there made it look a lot better and seems to have disolved whatever made it looked like it was worn out.

Probably dried up oil residue from shipping. Sound like you have a real shooter.
