I have been in the market for a Beretta 92 for some time now. I have had a 92F/S and Girsan Y16 compact in the past but neither stayed very long. I always disliked how you can not change the front sight on the standard 92 and that has always put me off them a little from a shooting stand point, however I have always been a huge fan, being that I grew up on action cheese of the 80's and 90's. Anyways, I decided I wanted a Beretta again. I was interested in the WC92G, the M9A3 and the newer 92X Centurion. I found a 92X on the EE for a fantastic deal and pulled the trigger. A week later it was in my grubby mitts.
I really really like this pistol.
The Beretta 92X Centurion is a semi automatic DA/SA 9mm pistol that is fed from a staggered column detachable box magazine and is based on the 92F/S pistol of Hollywood fame, oh and I think some big army down south used it or something, I don't know, I was too busy watching The Replacement Killers.
The 92X uses Beretta's "universal slide", what ever that means, and the vertec style grip frame. The Centurion model features a shorter 4.25" barrel as opposed to the standard 5" barrel. The slide now features a dovetailed front sight that is interchangeable. The pistol I have came with a thin front sight post with a small red dot. I will be changing out the front sight for something of the tritium/HD dot flavour. The rear sight is an all black serrated with a square notch... My favorite! Being a Beretta of the 92 variety the pistol features an open top slide with "wide ejection port, no feed jams" . It also features a loaded chamber indicator and a steel guide rod.
The barrel features a recessed target crown as pictured.

My example is a FR model which means that the safety functions as both a safety and decocker, which I will be changing to a 'G' or decocker only configuration soon. The frame is aluminum and features very nice checkering of the front strap that transitions to vertical lines towards the bottom. The rear strap features checkering from the middle of the grip all the way to the bottom. The Magwell is nicely beveled to aid in mag insertion. I would like to find a Wilson Combat Mag guide for the 92 series but it has proven challenging. The 92x also features and enhanced mag release, a three slot picatinny rail and a curved trigger guard. While I am not a Die Hard fan of rails on Beretta's and have no desire to run a light on this pistol, I do think they did a much better job of preserving those ###y Italian lines than they did on the M9A3 with that flat chested trigger guard.

Being a vertec grip, there is no longer the hump on the back, the lines are much more 1911ish now. I much prefer this and find it very comfortable. Beretta includes a wrap around grip that simulates the feel of the older style grip hump, as well as a set of vertec grip panels. The grips that are included are nice and thin and have quite the aggressive texturing, some where between the Glock gen4 and the RTF2. My example came with some fancy schmancy wood grips. While they are very nice. They are not my thing. It also came with some G10 (Hogue maybe?) grips. I tried on all four grips and like the G10s the best, they are slim with good texture that provides adequate purchase and I think they look the best.
The trigger on this 92x seems to be a little smoother than the trigger on my past 92F/S. I find the trigger reach in DA to a be a little far for my liking. I would prefer to have the trigger sit at the first crease of my index finger, instead it rest in the center of the pad. The DA pull is pretty decent with a bit of take up followed by hard pull that is crisp. I don't have any way to check the weight so I will not speculate but I believe I read some where that the 92x featured a 'D' spring but this certainly does not feel like a 'D' spring so I will be swapping over to one. The reset is nice and tactile. The SA pull has some minor take up and then a nice crisp break. I like it better than my 226 trigger.
The pistol comes with 3 mecgar mags from the factory but really, this gun is meant to be New York Reloaded so the extra mags are useless, better to just by 6 of the pistol instead.
Overall I am quite please with some of the new features that Beretta has packed into this lethal weapon of a pistol. While I have not had it to the range yet I did manage to shoot my TV twice while watching Chow Yun Fat do his thing, what can I say, I got excited. I do need to find a holster that will fit this pistol and I will probably end up going with a Safariland 7 series ALS as I have read that they will fit Beretta's with rails.
Once I get a chance to put a few hundred rounds through the pipe I will update with a range report.
Here are some pics of it side by side (ok up and down) with a Glock 17.4 and a Sig P226
I also definitely did NOT try and post this review in the Pistols EE section.
