I'm considering getting one in 40S&W. Anyone on the board has one? used one? And can give me input on it? I would really appreciate it!!!

I have one and it's nice pistol...the "pull it back till it won't go back any further" trigger takes a bit of getting used to. It's plenty accurate and utterly reliable. If you've got medium to small hands, the grip and reach to the trigger/controls is just right. If you've got large hands or long fingers you'll have a problem.

Thanks a lot Corey and SixStar. I got lots of good info on the Beretta forum and yes I do have medium size hands. I had held the pistol. The trigger and mag release were very comfy and in reach and yes I did notice the trigger travel. One question though, are all Beretta 40 cal mags interchangable? IE 92 seires with 96 series in 40 cal? Please correct me if I got the pistol designations wrong ;). Oh and one last thing, any ideas of the price range that I might expect?

Beretta maintained the same grip angle with their alloy-framed Vertec and Elite 1A so that they would accept standard Model 96 magazines. All mags that fit in the 96 series full-sized pistols will fit in the Vertec. If you can't find genuine Beretta factory mags, the only aftermarket mags that are half decent are the Italian-made Mec-Gar mags, but they have the irritating plastic "box" on the bottom instead of the flat baseplate of the factory mags, therefore will not accept the Elite rubber bumper pads.
The 92 series is 9mm, the 96 series is .40cal
I see Vertecs on sale for anything from $900 to $1000. An Elite 1A will set you back around $1200.

Six Star, put a regular trigger in it. Problem solved (and it's legal to do so in Production).

Dante's had them (Vertec .40) for $750 in the access a few months ago......

By 'regular trigger', do you mean just the trigger itself from a 96? Is that the only difference that causes the Vertec's "all the way to the back" trigger pull?
My new Vertec has a steel trigger, btw.
I've already got some stuff coming from David Olhasso.

Berettas are nice but if you go 40 cal in the 96 series then you will only have a 10,00 rd life expectancy (read warranty) on the frame. if caliber isn't a great issue then go 9mm and you will get greater life span out of it. If it is potential safe queen then go ahead and get the 40.

10K? I'm pretty sure it'd last longer than that...but for .40 I would go with a Brigadier or a Elite they have a heavier/stronger slide....

I recently picked up an Italian made 92fs Inox for a good deal, which was the only reason I bought it. It is a fine pistol with a decent trigger. It will never be my favorite handgun, but it is quite servicable and reasonably accurate. I have medium sized hands (I suppose) and I find the grip just OK. I prefer a Govt model with a flat MS housing. A vertec would probably suit me better, but I think the vertec makes for an ugly pistol...as I am not a high speed operator, nor do I play one on TV, IMHO, the aesthetic appeal of a gun is hand in hand with its ability, to me. YMMV.:D

The 10k round count does that affect only the slide or the barrel too? I checked the barrel and it looks like it's made out of stainless steel since it was written stainless on it. As far as the slide are the brigadier model slides interchangable with the Vertec?

dunno that a 96 firing girlie IPSC loads would suffer that much compared to a 92...Let's not forget that the 9mm is a high pressure round as well. ;)
I think what beats up guns is not pressure it's the recoil (that preassure genetrates). Pressure will either blow the gun up or basically have no effect.

Speckfire no really 10K is not 'right', don't worry about it...

warranty on a frame? doesn't beretta comes with a 3 year warranty? I don't think it saiys anything about the round count.
