Haven't owned a pistol or revolver in about 20 years.

Thinking of getting one back in the line up.

My thoughts have always gravitated towards Beretta , I very much like the styling and after researching it appears they are a very reliable item.

What are your thoughts on them? The good bad and ugly.

Also is the .40 sufficient for big game hunting in Canada? mainly moose :p

The Beretta 9x series was designed for 9mm, and the 40 is pointless anyway. The paper won't know what its being shot with, so it'll not know to fall over like it was hit with a death ray (that's the problem with paper, it lacks imagination). The gun, however, will know it's shooting 40 and since it knows it's genetics are all 9mm it may exhibit confusion, which in extreme cases, may cause it to crack a locking block. Get the 9 - the cheaper ammo is a nice side effect too.

Ummm, no, the original beretta 92 was built as 9mm but frame was redesigned for 40 which is why the 92fs now has the slanted front part of the frame same as a 96fs, but since were talking A1 its redundant because they have the rail and an even stronger frame than the FS.

They are very reliable and accurate but personally find them a bit bulky in the grip which is why all 4 of my 92/96 are vertec frame models. BTW I also have a 357sig barrel for my my 96 inox vertec and between .40 and 357sig has aprox 30k thru it without any issues.

I would stick to 9mm because it is cheaper to feed and easier to shoot well. There is no meaningful advantage to .40 in this day and age unless you expect to have to shoot through a lot of windshields.

SO a .40 is too small for moose? :)

Should a fellow be looking at ease of maintenance with these things , is that ever a factor?

Are the Beretta a big hand, little hand type of grip and balance?
