Beretta A300 Ultima

I love mine. It's been rock solid besides a loose front bead. Last year i did a skeet shoot then a goose hunt. Put 450 rounds through it between cleanings. Was flawless the whole time.
 
I dont own one but ive shot a few. Great gun for the money. Im not a fan of the kick off system or the rubbery inlay on the comb. Both serve their purposes well but I shoot low gun and often have facial hair. Also I find the kickoff slower getting back on targets when using heavy loads.
That said I have a hard time passing a 20ga ultima in any shop. The kick off is removable

As for function and handling they arent quite the old 391 but they offer alot of good features. Over sized controls and enlarged ports loading and ejection. The stepped rip is nice and the synthetic stock set can take a beating. My 1301 comp has been thru alot and their made of the same material

Mobil chokes are also cheaper if you're a choke collector
 
I only own 2 shotguns A300 ultima patrol and a mossberg 500spx tactical ...I got the ultima for I think $799 usd as I live in U.S. most of time and it's probably the best SA shotty for the price , a well built solid gun. Im not a huge shotgun fan but I love the A300ultima, Id love to have one for when im in Canada but sorta expensive in new india.
 
love my new A300 UP. Shoot great, no jam even with light load, short brass

Handled 1301 comp and I like it however $500 different in price tag is significant for me

I am happy with my A300 UP
 
I figured that I was all done goose hunting a couple of years ago and sold my go to waterfowl shotgun. Since I retired this spring it seems now all my buddies want to go shoot some more geese and in checking my gun room it appears that I no longer have a gun with a 3 inch chamber, how that happened I'm not sure. So I don't know how many goose hunts I'll do but I just booked a crane hunt for fall so I'm in the market now for a 3 inch semi auto and the A300 looks like it will fit the bill for me.
Glad to hear so many positive remarks about the gun so I think there will be one in my future!
 
Another option is a used a400 xplor. Theyre a 3" gun. Wood stocked to. Gently used is only slightly higher than a new a300 ultima unless you're looking for a more all weather gun

I've found my 1301 comp to be the best waterfowl gun ive owned. Perfect for kayak hunting with oversized controls and adjustable length of pull. Works great for heavy coats and a life vest. Simple and easy take down for drying and cleaning. The a300 ultima is a different system but shares alot of features and is offered in 20ga which keeps me interested even though I really dont have a use for it other than to say I have a nice 20ga rain gun

Only real downside of the ultima is they dont come with a case whether or not that matters to you. I like hard cases for transport
 
Yeah the xplor would be fine too but the reason I ask about the a300 is that I have my eye on a slightly used one for a good price. Not that the money is a big issue but everyone likes a deal!
I'm not very well versed in the newer semiautos as I'm primarily a break action guy but my o/u 12 gauge guns are all 2 3/4 inch chambers. I have an A303 in the rack but it's only got a 2 3/4 inch chamber as well and the other semi I have is a 390 in 20 gauge.
Need I state more reasons to purchase another gun???? :)
 
Could buy a mod chokes 3" barrel for the a303 but sounds like you need a new gun.

The a300 ultima is based on the a303 lineage with a better self cleaning piston. Even as berettas entry level semi its still a beretta gas gun of which are some of the best designs out there

I just went the opposite way. I wanted a 3" ou for migratory birds and pigeons and dont want to run steel thru my Teague thin walls so I bought a beretta 688 sporting
 
When I was running a Beretta 682 Gold E Sporting I took it out goose hunting a couple of times as it had a 3 inch chamber. I put a bit of duct tape over the shiny receiver sides to eliminate glint though.
Unfortunately none of my sporting guns have 3 inch chambers and as I'm running Muller Featherweight chokes then I wouldn't put steel though them anyway.
"sigh".... it's just new gun time!
 
I tried out the Ultima yesterday. It cycled some heavy steel loads that I had laying around just fine, but it didn't eject the light target loads which were 1 1/8 oz/1145 fps, that's ok though because target shooting is not the purpose of this gun.

I shot at a big piece of cardboard at about 30 yards and was pleased to find that the gun shoots exactly where I'm looking with no adjustments of the stock needed so that's nice to know!

I didn't shoot it with the kick-off in place but looking at this thing it occurs to me that it is junk.... Just pushing the butt in and out with my thumbs it seems to stick and not run very smooth, this will go in the box the gun came in and will never see the light of day again while I own it.

All in all I'm very pleased with the gun so far and have high expectations of it for water fowl hunting!

The a300 is us built not Italian so theyre going to be rougher around the edges no doubt. The various 300s around my club seem to work just fine with any cheap trap load. No one has brought out an ultima yet

Possibly a good break in with 4 or 5 boxes of heavy loads will smooth it out.
 
You know, I've had a lot of Beretta guns over the years, mostly over and unders but some semis and side by sides thrown in too and I hold the brand in fairly high regard for the most part but every now and again they really drop the ball and I think that Kick off system is one of those times. Another two bit system I can think of off hand was a the adjustable comb on the 680 series guns, that was just micky mouse as well.
With the kick off out of sight in the box it came in it's not going to be any problem for me, time to enjoy the gun!
 
I've met ppl who love the kickoff. Its just a weird recoil pulse and having facial hair adds to the discomfort. I find it slower and sloppy. None of my a400s have it
 
I bought my A300 synthetic when a big outdoor chain was closing up.

I paid $925 for it.

It has been very reliable with light trap loads. I shoot single trap with it.

I bought a used Beretta case for it so it's a nice cheap, reliable, soft shoiting, non ammo sensitive rig.
 
$925 was a great price, they're listed around $1500 these days. Mine was very slightly used with about 50 rounds through it I'm told, I paid $1100 for it. Just the few rounds I put through it last week tells me it probably wasn't sold because of any problems it might have.

The light target loads I put through it just didn't quite have enough power to fully cycle the bolt and would hang up with the bolt open and the spent hull partly ejected, so close but no cigar. I expect that handicap loads will work fine through it but like I mentioned, this is just a hunting gun and won't see that target range.
 
I think woth a good deep cleaning and 4 or t boxes of hea y loads run thru it you'll find it will do much better with lighter shells
The original owner may not have cleaned the packing n shipping grease and oil out of it before running those 50 rounds.
