Beretta A301 questions

Good day,

I picked up a nice condition Beretta A301 12g 2 3/4 with a full choke, that is too be a dedicated trap and 5 stand gun.

How do these guns cycle light loads? I prefer to use 1 1/8oz @ 1200 fps. Should these run this fine or will i need to open up the gas ports?

The cost of running pheasant loads constantly far out ways, the loss in value of modifying this shotgun so no worries there.

I have a dedicated duck gun, and will not bring this out anywhere but the club.

I had had a 301 with a 23/4" chamber and it cycled light loads well, the 3" barrel would only cycle heavy 11/4 oz loads reliably.

If it's stamped 2 3/4 inch chamber then it should cycle fairly light loads, try it and find out. Don't be too hasty to open up the gas ports, make sure it's really clean and well lubricated before deciding it needs more gas to cycle! Once you open the ports then heavy loads will beat the gun to death.

Oh, and make sure you put a shell catcher on it if your going to shoot trap.... or you may not get invited to shoot with your squad again!
