I've been hunting Canada's with an A391 X2 (Camo) I bought off a CGN member a few years ago, LOVE it. Recently a friend of mine decided to upgrade to the new A800 and offered me his A400 (black) at a great price, obviously had to pick it up.

I got my hands on the A400 last night, and was handling it, now I'm starting to doubt the look and feel, it just feels kind of plasticky, specifically the stock and forend... I know the A391 is also plastic with but the camo finish, and rubberized grip areas on the stock, it just feels better.

I prefer the raised rib on the A400. I believe it cycles faster and has less recoil with the improved gas system. BUT the A400 is only a year old, and has some minor scratches on the receiver, my A391 is much older, and there is a bit of wear, but no scratches, the finish just seems better quality.

Anyone own both? Which one do you prefer?

I'm almost considering installing the kick off from the A400 on my A391 and selling the A400 without the kickoff at a reduced price ($1500??). Am I crazy? 🤷‍♂️

A391x2 is maybe the perfect goose gun if you have the factory kickoff. I have literally many thousands of 3.5’s through mine, never jams, and just works.

I have never felt a need to “upgrade”.

The A400 felt cheaper to me, and after trying my buddy’s I was glad to go back to my X2.

I don’t think you are crazy at all.

I don’t thin the a400 kickoff fits the a391. The kickoff are very different. Stronger/beretta should be able to order and sell you an a391 kickoff. I bought mine separately partway through my first season with the gun. Huge difference with 3.5 magnum rounds.

I will look into it. Heading to SK for geese next year. Thanks.

Beretta A391 X2 and 1301 Comp Pro owner here. The A391 X2 was designed around 3.5" magnum loads. It is built like a tank and happily digests 1000's of shells without a hiccup. The KO on my 1301 does not work as well as the A391 KO stock. The Blink system seems to cycle a bit faster, but I can't out run either gun.

From memory there are 3 different versions of Kick Off stock with each having differing levels of recoil reduction.

Pretty sure the 1301 Pro Comp has the one with the lowest reduction.

Thats part of the reason I went the modded A400 route.

I didn't know that...but there is ertainly very little elastomer action in the Comp Pro stock.

Sophie's Choice...

Think I'm going to keep the A391. I know the A400 is technically a better gun, but I mostly hunt in small fields with pressured geese, so we setup blinds in tree lines and hunt over decoys that are quite a bit away; often shooting slow moving birds at 40-50 yards. I think A391 does better at this with the slower swing, and heavier feel. I also have a Muller passing choke and like my patterns at that distance. AND I just prefer how the A391 feels when shouldered.

Both are top field guns. Go with the one you like best. I prefer wood stocks so I went with the a400 xplor all without kickoff. I personally can not stand the kickoff action. I'd rather feel real recoil than have the stock move and flex. However my 1301 comp has become my favorite waterfowl gun. 3" in enough for all my 12ga needs. I reach for the 10ga if I need more than 1.25oz or bigger steel pellets

I have the og xtrema, xtrema 2 and the A400 xtreme plus.....and many other beretta shotguns. Is there enough of a difference to upgrade from a xtrema 2 to a A400? No, not really. I have hammered piles of geese, ducks small game, clays and even a few deer with both. They are extremely reliable and well built. I do prefer the grip on the xtrema 2 over the A400 however, the kick off system on the A400 is better Imo. Keep the xtrema 2 and buy the A400 to add to the collection.

Shot the AX800 and am absolutely not adding it to the collection. Not sure what beretta was thinking with that abomination

For sure keep the one that you like the best, I have the A400 Extrema + and really like it. softest shoot shotgun I have ever had and cycles everything I have put through it. I saw the A800 when it came out, looks like a space gun from a turkish factory :ROFLMAO:just butt ugly IMHO
