Looking for some help I am torn between the Beretta a400 xtreme in max4 camo and the Winchester SX3 waterfowl in mossy oak both guns fit and feel good the Beretta a little better but I think the Winchester would be as good with the adjustment shims so my question is to people that have shot both is the beretta worth the extra money Beretta 1830.00 vs Winchester 1018 I do really like the Beretta but what justifies the extra money both have great reviews

i have an a400 xplor unico and i just sold a browning maxus in mossy oak duck blind(almost identical to the sx3)...they both cycle and cycled anything flawlessly...i sold my maxus only because it never really came up to my shoulder quite how i like...both very light weight and both swing well....it depends what fits u best...i really didnt like the front sight of the browning at all and ended up putting a magnetic hi-viz on it but it just wasnt the same....i too am looking to buy an a400 xtreme(not sure black or camo) or a benelli super vinci...thats my 2 cents hope it helped

Both are good shotguns, but I went with the SX3 based on fit. The higher rib, and greater drop at comb fit me well, while the Beretta has far too little drop at comb for me.

I replaced my Xtrema2 with an Xtreme after shooting one for a couple weeks last fall and during the spring snow goose season. I shot the SX3 on a couple of hunts a number of years ago. While functionally both guns were flawless, there is no other gun better then the Xtreme at soaking up recoil. You just need to determine if recoil reduction is worth the extra $$$, to me it is.

That's like asking if you you buy a k car or a Ferrari. If you can afford it go beretta. I did and I will never look back. If you do a search I did a review of the a-400 last fall.

k car and ferrari? meaning one is practical and affordable while the other is an over priced flashy status symbol? Berettas are nice (I own two), but you'll have a hard time convincing me they are worth spending twice as much. The 391s can be had for a pretty good price though.

in my opinion....Beretta's are totally worth the money....ur getting quality....the fit and finish is much nicer than ur average firearms...just my opinion though

I own an a400 xtremem.... great gun but so is the SX3. My preference is obviously the A400 but for and extra 800 bux? I say if you think the SX fits you then you can't go wrong. If one just doesn't fit then go with the other.

All else (fit) being equal, go with the better value.

Instead of the SX3 get 3 Remington 870s or instead of the A400 get 5 Remington 870s. Problem solved! You could even get some ammo or a nice sling and still come out on top...

hahahah that's funny, I own 2 870's. They will be up for sale one the EE soon. Put 2-500rnds down your 870 and tell me how your shoulder feels. Bought an A-400 today, worth every penny, the wife put 50rnds down it with out flinching once. Light, fast pointing, no recoil, fastest follow ups I've ever seen. 870 doesn't even compare. The versa max doesn't even compare, cheap jamming junk. The Beretta takes whatever I feed it without problems.

I own a A400 Unico KO. Before buying, I tried some others and have continued to compare afterwords. A400 is the Lexus of the semi-autos (what happened to the "Cadillac of..." ?). That is if you like Cadillacs and Lexus. I prefer my $300 Express for everything, because it fits me better.

You see, the moral of the story is; when it comes to shotguns, go for the one that fits you better.

Just one old man's opinion but lets see how great our A-400's will be in 62 years and if they will sell over 10 million of them like the 870.
I just aquired a A-400 and yes it is a nice gun but also own more than 20 lets say 870 wingmasters and we are talking apples and oranges as far as workmanship and quality is concerned.
I do understand the shoulder part however since 870's were designed for a time when men were men and had big shoulders to handle recoil.:p
Want to own the best semi auto ever produced pick yourself up a super x-1. Like to see a A-400 after 150,000 rounds like many x1's have chucked over the years and still going strong.take care:)

I can't say for the a400, but I think there are plenty of 391s out there that have proven record of high volume shoots on clay and game.

These two guns are both great but you can't compare them because they both have totally different fits.

Like everyone says for the 1,000,000 time on these threads BUY THE GUN THAT FITS YOU and gives you a proper sight plane/ picture.

You can say this gun is better than this blah blah blah. It all comes down to how it fits you. There will be a guy at the range that has a plain barrel 1912 model 12 Winchester standing next to your $1700 gun and he will shoot way better than you because his gun fits him properly.
