Hey guys,

Im thinking about buying a new shotgun! I got my eye on the Beretta A400 Xtreme OR BenellI Super Black Eagle 2. I will be using it mainly for trap shooting and clay sporting at the range and occasionally a waterfowl hunt a couple times a year.

Questions:

1. Should I go with beretta's gas or Benelli's inertia?

2. I shouldered both, the beretta was a bit heavier but that's better for recoil no? Which has less recoil and muzzle rise?

3. Is the gas system really that difficult to clean and maintain than another other centrefire?

4. What others do you guys recommend that I should take a look at?

5. Should I wait for the SBE 3? I live in Toronto, Ontario and my local gun dealer said they will get it in September - October! That's so long!

Thanks so much for you help guys!

If it will be primarily clay shooting. The Beretta.

Question 1 Tie, modern gas guns are quite reliable.
Question 2 To me, the weight makes it a better clay gun. It may cycle a variety of target loads better.
Question 3 I don't mind cleaning a gas gun. But my inertia gun is less work to clean.
Question 4 ?
Question 5 Not if you want a primarily clay target gun. Buy the A400 now.

I have an A400 and a Super Vinci. Both amazing guns and both easy to clean. I would say if it's mostly clay sports go with Beretta. Also as another option the Benelli Cordoba is a sweet gun. And the supersport too but maybe a bit flashy for waterfowling. You could even save some money and go with an M2.

I noticed that everyone keeps telling me if it's for mostly clay sports, get the beretta. Why is that?

just my personal and amateur opinion, in Clay sports,no modification needed and no fast reloading required so factory A400 will fit , if for other Shotgun shooting like 3Gun, IPSC then the SBE/ M2 would be a better choice , easy to modify the loading port, lots of upgrade parts available, better ergo. SBE and the A400 are both excellent guns,

I usually request Prophet River to import almost all my SG, as long its available down South, they can get it in a month.

In Canada sometimes 3.5 chamber has an advantage for ( 3 gun, IPSC) it can take 7 rnds of 2 3/4 than 6 rnds for 3"chamber, , and the 3.5 usually has bigger loading port ( but still needs modification),

From what I see the xplor is chambered in 3" not 3 1/2" and it doesn't shoot as well as the xtreme especially 3" loads. As its designed to shoot target 2 3/4" loads extremely well.

I'm really leaning towards the Beretta A400 Xtreme. Does anyone think I should wait for the Benelli SBE3?? When would that even be available in Canada?

Im planning on doing my IPSC Black Badge as soon as the weather gets better. What kind of shotgun would I need for that?

For IPSC shooting and other Action Type especially here in Canada, I would go with a 3.5" SG ( SBE and Versa- TacOrd) for that extra round. For 3" SG, lots choices, M2, Versa Tactical, Stoegers M3K, lots of choices. I ordered my SBE2 24" from Prophet River, took about a month to come. If you really in for trhe SBE3, check the availability in the States, if its availiable then PR can get it for you. Its just me, but I dont want to be the first guy in block type, we dont know yet how this new SBE3 will perform and their not cheap. Also go to the Action Shooting Forum, lots of infos you can find. btw, if you are leaning towards the A400 TacOrd can make it ready for you. Take your time , I know how it feels, lol

Beretta A400 Xplor. If you can't kill it with a 3" a 3 1/2" is just throwing out more lead with more recoil. I have over 8000 rounds mostly 1oz light loads through my A400 since the last time I cleaned it. Had a couple of failure to feed a few weeks ago so I might have to clean it again. SBE suggest 3 dram loads to cycle properly.

Damn lol there is so much to consider!!! I really don't know what I should buy! For 3 gun and ipsc what modifications to the loading port would I need to do?

Buy the one that fits you best and swings best. I went through this a couple years and decided on the A400 Xplor Unico for a trap gun. I shot a couple thousand rounds a year through it for 2 summers before buying an O/U. Still have the A400, just use it more for hunting now. The Gas system on the A400 is super easy to clean if you're using decent quality rounds. I've never had a malfunction either.

welded/ extended carrier for me is mandatory, lowering the loading port, tuning of shell latch, mag extension, the rest are optional- ( bolt handle, safety, bolt release tab)
