Beretta A400 Xtreme OR BenellI Super Black Eagle 2

Will through my .02 had a extrema 2 for 5 years shot multitudes of shells through it then started to "act" up not cycling everytime thought it was dirty ,no still had some issues ,sold it bought a benelli SBE my partner sold his extrema 2 same time bought the A400 has been back 3 times will not cycle 3.5" my benelli same issues but fixed first time back ,now cycles everything soo what am I saying both have had their issues...on a side note was in Argentina shooting doves 2012 shot 7000 rounds in 3 days through a benelli 20 gauge no issues but no 3.5" either

I was in the same boat not long ago. After taking the advice from the forum I went with what fit me the best. That was the Remington Versa Max Waterfowl Pro. I was open to any autoloader around the 2grand mark. And this was the best fitting most comfortable feeling one. Go shoulder a couple and see what fits.

Hey,

I just noticed that one of the trap and skeet clubs have this rule:

Do not use and shells with a shot size larger than 7 1/2.
Shells must be target loads for trap, skeet, 5 Stand and Olympic style shooting.
1 1/8 oz. 1290 fps (feet per second)
1 oz. 1325 fps
7/8 oz. 1350 fps

Does this eliminate any of my options? What shot gun should I lean towards because of these rules?

Almost all clubs have those rules. Both your options are heavy duty waterfowl gun that can double as clay guns buy neither are made specifically for it.

Its like saying you got a big ass trailer and wondering if you should pull it with an offroad truck...you can but not built for the task at hand.

you will know, shoot a 682 beretta at doubles and sporting clays did not have to change a thing it was a natural..

My Beretta A400 Xtreme Unico has been flawless. I use it for trap, skeet, and sporting clays. I have no personal experience with the SBE, but if your experience is like mine you won't regret the Beretta for a second. Very soft shooting, and as such is a great platform for introducing new shooters to clay games.

Thanks,
Cal.

Let me try to make things slightly more complicated.

I got both Beretta and Benelli, but I strongly prefer over under shotguns for clay targets.

OP, maybe you tell us what SG game you want or interested. , Hunting, Clay/ Trap, 3Gun/IPSC, even a percentage of it is fine, it will be more easier to narrow your options. lol

So I'm thinking that I eventually want to do some 3 gun and IPSC

I might as well buy a nice competition gun right? What do you guys recommend? I want to spend about $2500 or so

so benelli m2 if I'm gonna 3 gun

Cordoba or supersport for clay sporting

a400 xtreme for universal everything gun

???
A400 XPLOR with a 3" chamber for universal everything gun. The 3-1/2" XTREME is not always reliable with lighter target loads although it is slightly better than the Benelli SBE.

The Cordoba/Supersport are the same gun just with different finishes. They are ported which makes them less desirable for hunting.

If 3-gun is in your plans the Benelli M2 might be more of a "universal" gun which could be used for all activities. Otherwise the A400 XPLOR is a better choice IMO.

you might also consider the SBE2, its 3.5" chamber and 7+1+1, although a little pricier than the M2, you can get the 24"-26" bbl.

Go to your local gun shop and shoulder as many shotguns as possible. Ask the guy behind the counter(hopefully he knows what he's doing) to check the fit for you. Watch a couple videos on YouTube about shotgun fitting. I would recommend any by Gil Ash. Just because you "like" a gun it may not fit at all and you will notice this when shooting. I was never big into fitting shotguns or anything I bought what I liked and shot it. After really looking into it and buying a shotgun that fit me I noticed I hit more clays at the range and it's a lot easier for me. Everyone is different so it really is a hands on trial for whatever is best for you..
