I was considering a new waterfowler and I noticed SIR has the Beretta AL391 Urika Synthetic Semi Auto Shotgun on sale for $969. I have shot a few 391's and they seem to fit me really well. The SIR price seems like a really good price to me. Is there some sort of catch? No chokes, case, stock spacers or somethign like that? (The ad doesnt specify)

Anyways regardless of all that......has anyone tried one of these synthetic versions.

Is the stock of decent quality?

The raised gripping surface?? is it durable and easily cleaned or will it be tattered and black after a few seasons?

Its supposed to have some sort of anti-glare finish on it. How durable is this finsh on the metal?

Almost all the 391's I have shot were sporting/target models. I plan on using one in the wetlands not the trap field. Has anyone had any problem with feeding a 391 a steady diet of heavy field loads.

Most of my exposure to these guns has been during fair weather at a clay range. Has any one had any "duck weather" related failures to operate with these guns.

Thanks

Just recieved mine today,

Took a couple of weeks but well worth it.

It came with moulded case, five chokes, choke wrench, Beretta oil, additional slimmer recoil pad, drop and cast plates, valve wrenches, an additional two round plug for mag tube, manual, and 1+2 year warranty if you register within 30 days.

My opinion might be a little bias because I've always shot Berettas but that has got to be the best value for price deal on the market right now.

$969.00 and I got to save one tax by ordering from Ontario,

Dude, go for it.

cheers,

BB

This shotgun is one of many year end specials from the distributor. We had several other Beretta's that were sold almost 1/3 off original list price. Some people questioned the low price but there are some new models coming and the dist. just wanted to clear out old inventory. I think we still have a few left.

:) Having shot Beretta gas guns for many many years, in all sorts of conditions, I can assure you that they will stand up in the worst weather. Several years back, I wrote a test report on a 390 Super Sport that had 25,451 rounds with no interior cleaning and only 7 failures to feed. I have hunted with them in the Gulf of St Lawrence during a blizzard, on the banks of an ocean and in -25C cold. The guns never rusted or failed. There is one little trick to make them rust proof and reliable.

Take the gun completely apart, including the recoil spring assembly. Place all the metal parts on a stain proof mat. Spray wet all the parts with "BREAK FREE"! Wait several days for the "BREAK FREE" to dry. There is some teflon in it to dry the synthetics. Yes, teflon helps drying, ,most new car washes have a teflon rinse agent. Now, give it another coat and put it all together. The barrel will feel waxy when it all dries. It is now salt water proof. Fire off a few hundred heavy loads to get all the little machining burrs polished. The gun will now shoot everything from 2 1/2 dram training loads to max tungsten and steel loads (interchangebly to). BREAK FREE is the only lubricant and protector that disolves powder. It is good unoff for our armed forces as well as most Europeans, it should be good for us.

I have not cleaned my 391 Gold Sporting Optima for several years. I hunted with it all winter in rain, mud and snow. I finished tied for third out of 128 guns at the local sporting shoot with it, this weekend. There was not one failure to feed with the light target loads. I have only given the barrel a light reoil with BREAK FREE before going hunting in the wet stuff. I have never cleaned the gas piston.

If you don't like the trigger, send it to Cole Guns in Maine. They do a great job and are fast.

You have the best semi for all type of shooting in the world.

Best regards,
Henry;)
