Beretta ARX 160

See that skeptical look on my face?

That's because the Beretta felt pretty damn awkward to me.

Maybe I've been spoiled by the Tavor . . .

Although the 3 mag releases is kinda neat.

I think a large part of the cynicism comes from how long the rifle has been in production and how little results we've actually seen.

The ARX has existed in one form or another since 2007, possibly even earlier if you count their prototype carbines, and yet their only users are the Italian Army, Albania, and Turkmenistan.

Civilian production seems to have taken a backseat while various kinks in the system are worked out and more military contracts are pursued.

Comparative rifles from other manufacturers like the SCAR, ACR, or Cz805 are newer systems but are already wider established than the ARX.

The ARX could still prove to be a great platform, and I think if civilian production really happened they would certainly find a niche market both in Canada and the US for a semi-auto rifle, but it just doesn't seem to have been a priority for the parent company.

Alternate theory: It looks funny. Not ###y like a magpul gun.

Just because a system is talked about on the Internet or flogged around in the trade shows, it does not mean it is more established. Systems like ACR, or even SCAR, have pretty minimum sales military wise. Before FN 90 was made available to the US market, only 20,000 units were sold over 10 years. Cz805, they have only sold a few thousands to the Czech government. There are probably more XCRs out there than cz805s.

Relatively speaking , arx 160 is doing quite well in selling to Mexico and the Italian army. A new system is a 25 year investment at least. For example, G36 has been commercially available just over 16 years to get to where it is.

Also, some countries will simply sell to anyone. Some European countries do not have the liberties. When hk cannot sell to the Mexicans, I guess the Italians do not care. Many times, politics and personal relationships have much more influence on procurement in some countries.

Do you ever not talk about the tavor? all you seem to do is compare every single "black rifle" to it when in reality most of them aren't similar at all.
