Is there any way to tighten up a Beretta's barrel to slide interface?
I've got a police surplus 92F that shoots okay but I want more out of it. The barrel seems to have quite a bit of play in the slide radially in the slide.

I've heard on 1911s (as per Kuhnhausen's book) that you can use a punch to make "craters" in the 1911 bushing internal surface and then fit it down to the barrel to slide reasonably. That seems super sketchy to do in a slide.

Any smiths that could do such a tightening?

Should I just get a 92FS? Would they have better fitment? I'm also looking at the M9A3 but my fear is that they've just dropped in nice parts without doing a good tune.

Beretta 92s have always been sloppy, its inherent in the design, but in the US for military "hardball" matches, several modifications were developed. However, you would not like the cost, they ran upwards from 1500 to 2500 dollars. The cheapest was a bushing fitting that screwed onto the end of the slide for a few hundred. The costly bit was putting steel rails into the frame. If you want accuracy it is very difficult on any Beretta, much cheaper and easier too obtain on the 1911 platform though the CZ shadow line is another possibility.

The cost would not be worth it unless you did it your self ie, Gunsmithing, and do some mill work.
there are better guns to "gunsmith" on
Police surplus are not usually target guns.
I sold a bunch of the Star model Super B's some where as new , and shoot great, first one I got in was as new, don't think it had ever been issued, and shoot as good as Hi end guns, next one looked great, shot great, pattern poor.
But as a steel 9mm great buy.
I have never had a 92 that I could shoot very good, maybe just me
