Just got my new CX 4 Storm..I was rather surprised at the amount of recoil for a 9mm..My shoulder was sore after 50 rounds. Is this common or could it be my ammo? I am using the same reloads that I use in my pistol...very light loads. Others that shot it mentioned the recoil as well.

Just wondreing if any else has experienced this?

Thanks

I'd say it is a combination of:

Too much fun + not used to having something on your shoulder for extended periods of time :)

Thats quite true....cause I shoot mostly hand guns:redface: ..but I have shot other 9mm carbines but dont remeber much recoil..more like shooting a 22

Huge fun factor by the way...nice to have 10 rounds...:D

There shouldn't be any significant recoil.

Pay attention to your hold on the rifle ... is it held tight to your shoulder when you shoot?

I guess I need to get a 12ga shottie to toughen up. LOL

Whoa buddy  We want you to enjoy the fun of shooting, so save the shotgun stuff for later ;) :D And contrary to popular belief, there's nothing wrong with using additional shoulder padding when shooting. When I was a skinny 14yr old kid, I used to sneak one of my mother's quilted oven mitts out with me when shooting my old, steel butt plated, Lee Enfield .303 British. Just tucked the mitt under my t-shirt and blasted away :D Saved a world of hurt and allowed me to concentrate on the shot rather than the "kick" I knew was coming ;)

I've shot a Ruger PC9 and I must admit that I was surprised at the recoil. I think it's the heavy breechblock that these blowback 9mm carbines have recoiling back and forth that causes it. I would think, though, that it shouldn't hurt your shoulder. The butt should be in the cleft between your shoulder muscle and chest muscle for best positioning...maybe give that a try?

I also got a sore shoulder after my first range session with a .40cal Storm.
I found that the unusual configuration of the Storm's stock caused a tendency to place the butt of the Storm higher and further out on my shoulder than a 'real' rifle, which will bruise the shoulder bone in short order. Everyone who fired the .40cal Storm commented on the surprising recoil for a pistol round out of a carbine. The massive reciprocating bolt contributes to the felt recoil.

I think its the way I was holding it, the stock is kind of small .. I have shot an MP 5 and hardly noticed any recoil. Its more than I would have expected from a 9mm..If other people hadnt complained about it I probably would not have thought much about it. I will try some factory ammo... and see if that makes a difference.

I've heard this complaint before. Alot of people feel the bolt unduly exacerbates felt recoil in the storm. Having said that, it is a fairly heavy arm for a pistol round.

I also have the CX4 Storm but in 40 cal. I have to say that I shot over 100 rds through it and my shoulder didn't hurt at all. I was surprised at how well the Storm shoots. :ar15:

I find the Storm has negligible recoil although I shoot a lot bigger rifles on a regular basis. As mentioned... it might be a combination of little experience with rifle shooting & bad stock position. I am sure there is nothing wrong with your Storm. Buy more ammo and enjoy it. It's a great little carbine!

Regards,

Hmmm, I remember being surprised at the amount of recoil a 9mm generated in the Storm last time I shot one. It didn't cause any discomfort, but I was not expecting a tiny 9mm to produce any recoil at all. I'd say the felt recoil was somewhere between my Hornet and an SKS (while producing MUCH less ME then either). Although the Storm stock really didn't fit me too well, I don't think that can account for it all.
