Beretta CX4 trigger malfunctions after NR barrel conversion

Hope my fellow CGNers can help.

I picked up my CX4 yesterday from the gunsmith after having the non-restricted barrel conversion and de-restriction done with the CFO.

I performed a test after assembly quickly in the store and it seemed okay.

On getting the CX4 home, however, I noticed the trigger would intermittently malfunction a lot. The trigger would travel all the way rearward but with little resistance or it would catch and then there would be no resistance. The hammer would not fall or release.

The trigger only releases the hammer consistently when the upper is not attached to the lower.

With the upper attached, the trigger fails to release the hammer unless there is some leftward force applied to the trigger.

Looking at the rifle more closely, it appears the bolt is sitting forward just a little too far when closed and this is causing the underside of the bolt to just engage the disconnection "nub" on the trigger bar (on the rearward slope of the recess on the underside of the bolt for the disconnector "nub")

If I shift the bolt back as little as 1-2 mm, the trigger operates the hammer consistently regardless of any lateral forces on the trigger.

Pushing the trigger to the left appears to slightly warp the trigger housing, forcing the trigger bar to sit lower and preventing the disconnector "nub" from contacting the bolt in closed battery position.

It is my suspicion that the barrel is sitting too far forward in the upper (by 1 to 2 mm) or that the chamber end of the barrel is dimensionally just a bit short, allowing the bolt to move too far forward and causing this malfunction.

My suspicion is further heightened by the fact that the plastic in front of the charging handle is slightly deformed, suggesting to me the bolt is riding forward a little too far.

Does this make sense? Has anyone encountered this before?

Could those of you with CX4s post pics of your ejection ports with the bolt in the closed position apics as well as the front of the charging handle slot?

Thanks.

pictures:

space behind bolt spring clip (not sure if this was visible before)
the white crayon are reference marks. On the upper, the space between them represents the recess in the bottom of
the bolt. On the lower, it represents the "disconnector nub" (I don't know what else to call it) on the trigger bar.

plastic deformed in front of the charging handle slot (charging handle removed). The appearance on the left side is
the same.

I have the non-restricted version and there is no gap as shown in your first photo. The charging handle slot on the right side is also farther back than in your second photo. I would say that your bolt closes about 2mm farther than it should. Stevo's comment about the barrel not being screwed in far enough seems valid.

Same here ...
As described above.
I wouldn't tinker .
Return it brother .

Thanks guys. Hope the gunsmith is reasonable. I'll provide updates as I get them.

Geoff: is the plastic of the receiver "bunched up" at the front of the charging handle slot on your's as well (as it is on my Cx4 shown in the second pic)?

Just curious, could you let me know (by PM if you wish) who the gunsmith was as I had my CX4 re barreled last year and haven't shot it yet. I don't want an issue but I haven't had a chance to get out and shoot it yet.

Thank you.

thanks for the input guys. I took it back to the gunsmith and although I didn't speak to the gunsmith himself, the staff appear to agree with my assessment.

Hopefully, the problem will be rectified without issue

Update: received the Cx4 back from the gunsmith last week and it functions fine in the gun shop.
I took it to the range (last weekend) and went through about 150 rounds of Wolf .40 S&W. Had 3 jams.

Odd thing is, I fired 200-300 rounds through it in the past before the barrel conversion and never had a jam (same ammo).

Would the 3 jams be something to be worried about, or just par for the course? Thoughts?

Failure to properly feed. The round doesn't get into the chamber and hangs up the bolt, keeping it open. No failures to extract.
