Ok I used to own a Beretta M96 and it fit my hand better than any other pistol. But the trigger was absolutely horrendous. Way too much take up and seemed inconsistant. Question is, is there a way to make the single action of the trigger be similar to a 1911 trigger. I like my 1911's but with my stubby fingers I have difficulty reaching the slide release and other controls something that wasn't a problem with the M96.

You can tune the trigger on the Beretta to be pretty damn good, but never anywhere near as good as a 1911. Either a trigger with a set screw for slack and another for overtravel or a modified trigger bar are the only two options for correcting those issues.
There will always be a lot of "take up" because that pre-travel is needed by the trigger for shooting in DA mode. Unless you're willing to disable the DA mode and shim out the pre-travel by making the gun a purely SA gun you're stuck with it.
In terms of reducing the creep and pressure needed for the SA release the gun should respond to the usual tricks but some of them that involve stoning sears and perhaps altering angles should be done by a smith that has the right jigs. It's not something to be done by eye with hand held stones.

I guess some of us are spoiled. My CZ's have had the contact faces of the action smoothed to a nice polish using very find stones and the hammer spring switched out for the 13lb OEM light option. The DA pull on them is around 6 to 6.25 lbs and the SA pull is somewhere around 3 lbs with little to no noticable creep. At some point I'm going to do my new Beretta up so it comes somewhere close to the same figures.
Its not so much the weight of the pull its the damn take up. I almost felt it was dangerous since sometimes I would pull so far that I thought the thing was empty only to have the round go off with even more pull. Way too much take up. Also seemed really inconsistant with the take up some rounds seems to go off with less some more
It sounds like either A) you have a broken gun or B) you have no idea what you're talking about.
The DA stroke is going to be the same every time you pull the trigger in DA mode. After the first shot though, it goes to SA mode. And if you release the trigger completely, then yeah you'll have a lot of slack to take up. That's why you don't release it all the way, only as far as you need to to reset the sear. Then pull again and it will be a much shorter pull.
