Just got this on Twitter today :

Beretta U.S.A. Corp. has discovered a potential condition with Beretta .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols in which the pistol will fire even if the safety is activated and, in some cases, the pistols may fire if the safety is moved from the OFF to the ON position. Chances of either of these situations occurring is extremely remote and no injuries have occurred because of this condition, however, because of safety concerns relating to this situation, Beretta U.S.A. Corp. is immediately implementing a recall of Beretta .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols. For more information, download a pdf copy of the Recall Notice.

This site and associated applications are for U.S. Customers only. Can someone please cut and paste the contact info for Stoeger in this thread???? And perhaps a kind Mod could copy this to "Pistols and Revolvers" forum....

Thanks, brother. Keep us posted, eh?

The lovely missus owns a Neos, and isn't relishing giving her gun up for +/- 6 months to get repaired. The only bonus is that she just mentioned she's gonna need a new gun to keep her occupied while the Neos is away, and she doesn't want another .22........

Will do.

so does any one know what is required to get it serviced, do I have to send my gun to them, or do I just have to send the firing pin to them for an exchange?

Hey, guys.

I called earlier today, and here's what they told me. They wanted me to check my serial number by clicking the "Your Neos may not be affected, Please check here" link on the recall notice webpage. My pistol's sn# came back as "no" under the repair completed column, so they took down my name, phone number and pistol's serial number. From what they told me, they're still in the process of figuring how they're going to go about the recall, so once they do so, they'll call me back with more information.

Sorry they didn't give much info, but I'll relay what they tell me when they call back.

ya i went to that page and mine said the same, it needs the new part. I tried calling them but i guess they were closed.

I don't what's the big deal. Who relies on the safety anyway? Keep the gun pointing downrange and the chamber empty when not about to fire, and there's no issue. I don't believe I've ever relied on a safety on any of my firearms. Ever.

The problem is that the recall states that the gun can fire simply from moving the safety switch, which in my mind is unacceptable, especially since both of my daughters fire my wife's Neos, and have been trained to use the safety on all firearms.

I see what you are saying... it's just that I never once even looked at the safety on that device. It's like an appendix - don't know it's there unless it causes problems.

there must be a "special" way to do that or something- mine won't and i'm somewhat hesitant to send it away through a carrier for 6 months or more-the only way mine will fire is with the safety off and rearward pressure on the trigger- and then only with SUBSTANTIAL pressure on the trigger as the safety comes off- i tried it last night about a hundred times- beleive i'll keep my mouth shut on this one until proven otherwise

I sent stoeger an e-mail but got nothing back yet. What happens if this one of those things not honoured in Canada. And if all it is is the pin (and they come apart pretty easy )why not just send the part to us?

Well, the way it sounded on the phone yesterday, they were definitely going to do something about the problem, they just needed some time to get organised and figure out how they were going to to go about pulling the recall off. I'm hoping it's just a quick fix, but I also know that it takes a few months for the repair to be completed, I'll just have to be patient. I'd rather have the peace of mind knowing that my Neos is safe to use.

OK guys.

I've been meaning to give an update on this, as they did get back to me on the issue.

They've sent out the recall notice to all Beretta dealers, and sent me a copy since I'd contacted them on the issue.

From my phone conversation with her, they are just waiting on the parts from Beretta, and she told me that the repair work will commence as soon as they arrive, so if mine is one of the first to arrive, it will be one of the first repaired. I have already called the CFC about a temporary ATT so I can ship it.
