I have always loved how the Beretta PT mounted for me, but I shouldered the new Benelli Ultra light and it points great as well. Thinking it might be a little whippy as a sporting clays gun?
Anyone out the shoot the parallel target or the Benelli? FS

PT Could Be Excellent

Was looking to buy a new shotgun to shoot trap and skeet and the list was:

Benelli SuperSport or Winchester SX3, was looking for a semi that mounted well and felt right in the hands. What the dealer told me about the Benelli's was they don't cycle the light loads very well 1 1/8 or less. But it mounted to shoulder well and the sights lined up perfectly. However, there was just something about it, plus the fact is was a grand more that the Winchester. The Winchester was the wood stock SX3 and didn't have spacers on it, so it didn't mount as well as the Benelli and the dealer didn't want to fart around putting on the spacers. But the rep. than pulled out the Beretta Parallel Target and wow! it mounted to shoulder well, the sight line was excellent and it just felt right.

In the end I tracked down a Winchester Flanigun which I just got a couple of days ago, the stock is longer than the wood version, and once I assembled it and put it to shoulder, everything felt right. However, my second choice would have been the P.T. it looks to be a sweet shotgun.

Anyway, my 2 cents.

I have owned both (Beretta PT & Sport II) and they are both great guns. But I think the Beretta would be a better choice for S. Clay's. It is heavier and recoils less.
The Sport II had no problem cycling light target loads.

A couple years ago I bought a PT and a Benelli Super Sport. Loved them both but I broke more targets better with the PT. I sold the SS and bought another PT as a back up gun, not that I needed a back up. Both PTs function without a hitch and I have tried them with 3/4 oz. reloads. I did wish that I would have scored better with the SS as it was super easy to strip and clean, compared to the 391.

I own a Benelli Ultralight and it is a great gun.....................for hunting. This is not a target shotgun, your shoulder will be sore. It shoots everything, right down to 3/4 oz managed recoil loads but it is not a soft shooter at all. I love it for long hikes in the grouse woods, but it hammers me on the line. Shoulders beautifully and is very easy to maintain, it's just not a clay shooter. Cheers,

Patrick

I have two 391 PT's and have shot the Benelli UL, both in 12 and 20.
You're dead-on with your initial thoughts ... the UL is very much on the "whippy" side as you put it for Sporting ... or clay targets in general for that matter. I do think it would
make a fairly decent grouse/woodcock gun ( ala Frank Woolner and his old lightweight and much-modified Winchester auto-loader grouse gun) ... or even for huns in your part of the world... but I think I'd still prefer the balance and weight of something a little more stout for sharpies. Personally, I leave the PT's (and DT-10) in the rack for targets only ... and prefer a 28" SxS for upland game.
