Looks like the new Beretta PX4 Srorm .45 might be restricted only (not prohibited)! :)

Someone on the Beretta forum who has the .45 PX4 measured the barrel muzzle to breechface and got 105.7mm  If that's true no need to wait for the 4.5" version...

I'm just starting to get into .45ACP and might get one if they'll be availabe here (and reasonably priced)

PS: Happy New Year!

Is 105.7 good enough? I thought it was 106 minimum and that was strictly enforced?

By all means, I'm not trying to challenge you, I would like to see PX4's restricted here!!

AFAIK, due to some legal hand waving and/or judges not understanding decimals, if it's more than 105mm, then it's not less than 106mm and therefore not prohibited. A H&K P7 has a bbl more than 105 but less than 106 and it's only restricted.

It makes no sense to me, but hey, they're gun laws. They're not supposed to make sense.

American's can't measure METRIC!!! If it's not ft/lbs or gallons, I wouldn't count on it.

I will say that to understand 6'0 is a hell of allot easier than 183 cm (or whatever the actual cm measurement is).

As far as I know, the regular PX4 is prohib in any caliber. That is, except for the PX4 .45 auto SD (Special Duty, Super Duty---whatever).
It has a 4.5 inch barrel and would only be restricted in Canada.

The Criminal Code defines the following firearms as prohibited:

  • handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm (4.1 inches) or less, and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific models used in International Shooting Union competitions;.
Over 105mm = non-prohib.

caliper guade rod down the barrel action closed...

To the best of my knowledge, yes and no. We have measured a firearm by this method that was over minimum length, but a measurement of the barrel itself was just under, and this was deemed to take priority. To quote the gentleman who is in charge of these things, 'a barrel cannot be longer than it is'.

The P7 is over 105mm regardless of how it's measured, as the pics posted here demonstrate.

The pics I've seen of a PX4 .45 barrel measured with the barrel out of the gun are about 102mm, though down the bore to the breech face are over 105mm.

and as with every beretta product you all enjoy STOEGER CANADA will be the first and prob the only to distribute.
cheers

just to clarify, the 45acp version does not need a different barrel ? the factory barrel it comes with is legal lenght in canada ?????
if so i just wet myself

and for those who care, i was reffering to the 45acp version not the 9mm or 40, because the 45 is a bit bigger and bit longer so the barrel is like 106mm or 105.6 or something like that. and i hadnt heard if it had been classified as prohib or restricted as i know the 9mm and 40 are prohib unless you get one with a longer barrel (ie questar) im not a fan of the extended barrel. so being as if the 45 is restricted without having to change the barrel. im all over it.
