Hi, I found a pair of these Beretta S 57E shotguns in 12 gauge for sale. They are literally new inbox. The receivers look to be nicely engraved. Any idea what they would be worth? Barrels are 28”.

While the S57E is one of the great lightweight over under shotguns, at $1200 for a 12 gauge, it would be getting way to close too the price of a used, more current 686 Beretta which you can get parts for.
Just one man's opinion.
The same model in 20 gauge has more demand, but the same shortage of parts.

That 57 series Beretta was a very lowend gun and $1,000 would be a bit of a stretch. Those things were stocked for someone with tough shoulders lol!!

What nonsense. In no respect was the S57 series Beretta "lowend".
The Beretta S57E was a nicely engraved quality gun with ejectors. The S55 was the plain entry level, but still of reliable quality.
They were a great reliable gun, but are unfortunately, they are orphans when it comes to spare parts.
They were notably lightweight guns that were great for carrying upland hunting. People who unwisely used heaviest magnum loads suffered the recoil consequences.
It is the same situation for any truly lightweight gun.

Agreed saskbooknut -- never and still don't understand why some nimrods out there feel the need to shoot magnum loads out of upland guns -- I'm unaware of any bird species in Canada that wear body armor.

I did a Google search and what I found is that the S57 weighs around the 7 pound mark. I am not sure if this is accurate. I have a 12g Browning 725 Feather and it weighs just under 6.5 pounds and have absolutely no recoil issues with it. Shooting three or four rounds of skeet with it or a few days of upland hunting and upland loads are not an issue. As saskbooknut said, the lightweight guns are great for upland hunting and recoil is only an issue if you start using heavy loads through them. But if you're doing that' it is a simply a case of using the wrong tool for the job.
