Can a person by after market barells for Beretta 12 ga AL391 Sporting. I am buying a gun with 28" barells I would like to use for sporting clays. I would be looking for a 26" barell for skeet. Your thoughts. Thanks. Cheers.

You can certainly buy other barrels for the A391, however the cost is very high (think $500 or so and you're in the ballpark). As stated earlier, the barrel you have is fine for skeet, in fact I believe the 26" barrel for skeet is no longer "in style" longer barrels making for smoother swing and all. Shoot what you've got and spend the money on shells and targets instead.

Good topic I was just about to post a similar question but no need to now.

I just purchased a Beretta 687 SPII sporting with 30" barrels. I was curious if they would pose any issues with Trap and Sporting Clay shooting since I've only had experience with a 687 with 28" barrels.

I shoot 28" in a pump or semi and 30" in a o/u Keeps the Overall length around the same. I cannot stand 26'' Barrels now, maybe it is because I have always shot longer barrels. I find i swing the gun past the bird/clay

30" barrels on an O/U are considered to be the minimum in trap and sporting. If you can handle the weight and the gun balances for you, that is the main concern. My O/U is 32" and the single barrel is 34". I shoot the 32" O/U for skeet as well.

My 32" DT10 is about an inch shorter overall than my 30" 391, and about an inch longer than my wife's 28" 391.

Considering the long receiver on the auto-loaders, the effective sighting plane on the
28" 391 is about 33" compared to 32-1/4" for the 32" O/U.

Barrel length, within reason, is not all that critical, much more important is proper fit and balance.

Your 28" barrel will be just fine for Trap, Skeet 5-Stand & Sporting Clays. ;)

I just rec'd the AL391 with 28" barell in the post yesterday. The gun fits like a glove and I am looking forward to shooting this Sunday.
