Hi All,

I'm shopping for a polished Beretta Steel-I and I have lost of questions:

1) Who has the best price?
2) Can I get a shiny polished version or are they all matte?
3) Is the only difference between the 92 and the 96 the slide / barrel?
4) If no to #3, what are the pros and cons to the 92/96 other than calibre
5) Can one buy extra 9mm/.40 cal barrel/slides in the same finishes?
6) Is the .22LR kit available in a Steel-I finish? If not any idea if/where one could get this done?
7) What has been your exprerience with this gun?

Any and all input on this firearm is appreciated.

1) Who has the best price? Importing from Questar
2) Can I get a shiny polished version or are they all matte? They only come in 1 finish
3) Is the only difference between the 92 and the 96 the slide / barrel? Only difference is the calibre.
4) If no to #3, what are the pros and cons to the 92/96 other than calibre No difference
5) Can one buy extra 9mm/.40 cal barrel/slides in the same finishes? If the factory has the extra barrel it will work
6) Is the .22LR kit available in a Steel-I finish? If not any idea if/where one could get this done? The 22 kit only is available in blue.
7) What has been your exprerience with this gun? Never fired one.

Any and all input on this firearm is appreciated. Way overpriced get a Sig 226ST if you want a full SS pistol.

Wolverine's price for Steel I is $1835, the .22 conversion kit is $430 (blue only)...but hey you paid a LOT more that that HK :p

IIRC Steel is polished stainess, 92 is 9mm, 96 is .40

EDIT: www. berettaforum.net :)

And that finish would be?

Now I'm confused. On another thread I was told that this top one is 92FS INOX (stainless slide, alloy frame)

and this bottom one is a STEEL I - limited edition w/polished stainless steel frame and slide

Did they get them reversed? The bottom shiny one is the one I want.

What was meant in the responses is that the STEEL-I only comes in the shiny finish, but you get the Inox with a matte finish; the Inox has the aluminum frame.

Also, the 22 conversion kit will most likely not work on the STEEL-I since the safety is based on the frame instead of the slide. The Beretta webpage mentioned that the conversion kit does not work with frame mounted safety guns, so I would assume this is one of them.

stay away from the alum.frame, and be aware that this particular pistol needs a new locking block every 5,000 rnds., alum or steele

yeeeeeah... sure

according to Beretta the locking block lasts an avarage of 22,000 rounds, but there are people at Beretta forum that still have the original one after 100K+. IIRC said Slavex said his 96 broke a locking block after 160K...

I love how dumb Beretta haters are.

I think there was a LONG discussion between Slavex and Redleg (TSE) awhile ago on this....

The Shooting Edge doesn't get nearly as many rounds through their berettas as you are trying to push.... But saying that, I really like my Berettas.

Like the other poster said, SIG P226ST is a better gun and costs about $600 less, if IM_Lugger's quote is correct.

From the Beretta Website:

The Kit can be mounted on ALL SERIES 92 PISTOLS WITH STANDARD FRAME - MODELS 92, 92S, 92SB, 92F, 92FS, 98F, 98FS and 96 as well as MODELS 92G, 96G, 92D,98F CAL. 7.65 MM PARA and on the TARGET, BRIGADIER, CENTURION AND ELITE versions.

However, the practice kit cannot be used on models COMPACT L and COMPACT L "TYPE M" due to their shorter frame and slide nor on the COMBAT, STOCK, and BILLENNIUM versions due to their totally different safety systems (frame-mounted safety)

Though the Steel-I is not specifically mentioned, isn't the Steel-I just a standard frame 92?

Dr.Chris

No, the steel 1 has a Vertec frame and manual frame safety. Like the SP01, you must manually lower the hammer for DA first shot.

Still a newbie

OK guys I'm still a newbie so bear with me. Can I assume that the saftey is the button where the rear of the trigger guard meets the grip? Does that mean a Ciener kit would work?

It sure looks like it might match finishes at least!

Dr.Chris

that's the mag release. And no the Ciener kit will not work on a Steel 1. None of the frame safety style guns will accept the conversion kits. Only standard, slide safety, guns will.

and that gun in your picture (or .22 kit should I say) has no safety. which is usually located on the back of the slide under the sights...
