that's the mag release. And no the Ciener kit will not work on a Steel 1. None of the frame safety style guns will accept the conversion kits. Only standard, slide safety, guns will.

I have a Steel 1 in 9mm and it is an excellent pistol. I have at least 5000 rds. thru mine with no probs.

I would buy it in 9mm and not worry about a 22 conv. kit.

92/96FS Inox has a stainless slide with matching alloy frame (you had a picture of one on a first page)

I found a 92 and 96 Steel for roughly $1,200 each which seems like a real bargain, but the INOX seems more versitile, and I could spend the difference on a slide / .22 kit, etc.

if you find a Steel 1 that is available, buy it, they are rare. Yes the standard style are more versatile, but the Steel has a stainless frame, not an alloy one, which means that it is definitely going to last longer under most circumstances.
