I'm new to Restricted fire arms. Used long arms since i was a child but only recently actually got my PAL. My question is as follows: Is there anyway to make the Beretta Storm cx4 non-restricted so i can take it to the bush with me? I was told to just have a gun smith put on a barrel that was longer than 18.5". sounds simple.... but im sure its not. Any thoughts?

ProLine in Calgary are trying to arrange for nonrestricted length barrels.
ETA summer 2010 call them at 403 265 6666 if you are interested in getting on the list after me.

The longer barrel only looks goofy if you put some sort of barrel shroud on it. Sorry for hijacking, but does anyone know if anyone makes a longer barrel shroud for the non-res version?

No need to wait. A guy in the lowermainland already does it!

it is that simple. Gunsmith installls new barrel and has it veryfied and straighten out paperwork, may take a month or two and voila! you have non-restricted Beretta Storm.

But.

Most gunsmiths don't have barrels laying around and to replace barrel on Cx4 one would need very special tool. So, you better find gunsmith that has a tool and a barrel. Both could be made by competent smith, will only take a few month of waiting. Barry at Bits of Pieces is your best bet I would say.

Be patient with Barry. It took 6 months to get my CX4 back. You have to wait awhile but he does good work.

Not to knock the Storm or anything, but if you are looking for a business-like bush rifle the Marlin Guide Gun can't be beat. It's light, about as big as a Daisy BB gun and can kill on both ends depending on how hot you want to load it. No restriction hassles, or re-barrelling issues either.

Just a thought.
