I'm a newbie here, just getting into handgun shooting. I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive gun that I can use to improve my technique without breaking the bank. A .22 seems to fit the bill and I have been looking at the Beretta Neos. Can anyone tell me about their experience with this gun....is it accurate, how easy/difficult is it to clean and maintain? Does anyone else have any suggestions for guns I should look at, pistol or revolver?
Thanks for any of your help guys.

I had one for a while and got rid of it because the grip was too small and my hands felt cramped on it. Otherwise it ran great and was very accurate. Takedown is dirt simple so it's very easy to clean.

I didn't experience this but I have heard of problems with the rear sight elevation screw loosening up during extended firing. There was also a recall over a faulty safety for some of the very early models, so you might want to check the affected serial numbers before you buy one.

Equivalent alternatives you could look at are the Browning Buckmark and the Ruger Mark III, 22/45 or Single Six (SA revolver), all of which are excellent pistols with a long history of quality, reliability and accuracy.

Pop says it all. :)
The Neos is a very accurate gun that is probably the easiest semi to strip down and clean. I have small hands so it fits me perfectly. The looks are love it or hate it. I've experienced zero problems other than a mag self destructing.
The Ruger Single Six is a lot of fun, very simple and accurate but semis are just so much more fun.

It's a great gun--reliable and accurate and one of the easiest to take down and clean. As long as the grip is OK, go for it. The recall was a free parts swap out IIRC.

You can't go wrong with either Beretta or Ruger. Both make fantastic rimfires (and centerfires)
Handle as many as you can and pick the one you like the best.
Ruger MK### pistols have an undeserved rep for being difficult to take down for cleaning, usually from people who can't follow simple directions..

Ruger has a DA/SA revolver coming to Canada soon that looks great. Might want to check that out.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've got smaller hands than most, and the gun felt good in my hand when I first looked at it. I'm glad to hear it's accurate and easy to maintain. I think it may just be my choice.

Bollox....interesting about the DA Ruger, I'd like to get a revolver as well ( played lots of cowboys and Indians as a kid)

Cheers all

I have both the Neos and Buckmark. I find the Neos grip to be more comfortable and I am way more accurate with it. My friend is more accurate with the Buckmark. The Neos is much easier to takedown and clean than either the Buckmark and Ruger semi autos. I have had no issues with either of them in more than 10,000 rounds through each.

As others others have said, it's accurate, reliable, and very easy to take down. The looks are either love it or hate it, and the grip is not for everyone. Also, the ambidextrous safety is a nice touch for southpaws like me.

Regarding the recall, as was mentioned, it was a free parts swap that Stoeger Canada took care of to remedy a very remote chance of the safety failing in some older models between a certain serial number range. Any new Neos since the recall already have the new parts, so it would be a non issue for those pistols.

I'll say one thing for sure - I'm never going to sell mine.:D

I have one and love it. It's been adopted by my wife as "her" gun. The grips are a little small but so are most grips I've found on .22s. My rear sight does tend to ride up but no biggie as I'm aware of it and tighten as necessary. She's also dirt easy to take down and clean and is more accurate than I am. If I were to do it again, I'd take a 6 incher in stainless.
