Beretta ???

Well I am glad I did not buy that Beretta I was looking at becasue I think now it may have been a sporter.

BTW what is a good Browning man like yourself doing, eying up a beretta?

Yes I know....I have even put down certian Beretta guns on this site.

What happened was that I shot two different 682's recently and the fit of these guns was better than I have with my Browning, not that the browning is bad. Also they seem to be a bit lighter and I swing the gun better.

I ran 25 and 24 with one of the 682's and 25 with the other. I still like an O/U as opposed to a combo and some used ones are in my price range like the one I was looking at. I will just wait and see what comes up and if it is in my price range. Then maybe....just maybe I will become a Beretta man

jacky: Just a word of caution! Be carefull when you try a gun for a round or two, especially if you are in a slump or are trying to raise your game to the next level. I have found that I often shoot exceptionally well when I try a new gun. For me it seemed to have more to do with going back to basics or maybe shaking some phobia that I had with my present gun. In my previous life I have bought more than a few because I blasted a couple straights

On the good side.....at least for me I have sold quite a few just by offering a fellow shooter, especially one who does not seem to be satisfied with his present situation..... "Hey try mine. Tell me me what you think?" 25 25! "Yes...I might be willing to sell it

Nice shooting!! It shows what one is capable of when well rested by sitting one one of those soft backed chesterfields or is that where you have to sleep when the lady finds out you bought another gun

It is funny about that because I know it is true. I can be patient because I shoot my browning fine. One of the things was fit with the Beretta. I am not a big guy and it seems that most Italian made guns seems to fit me well. The Beretta's also seem lighter which is a benefit while shooting the last 100 of a 700 bird event. If the right gun comes alone we will see.

Jacky, the Optima choked Beretta o/u, particularly the trap models, are lighter and far less muzzle heavy than the Brownings. I've always found the Browning trap guns to be beasts, smooth swinging but definitely tiring over the course of a shoot.

682E gold trap

I bought it new, 4 grand with taxes. Of course I bought the wife a new car to keep the peace.(and me off the soft back couch) So I have about 40 grand in the gun,
Anyway it is a pleasure to shoot, and still working towards a 100 straight with it.
This is my first trap gun. Always shot trap with a sporting gun before. I like the change

Yes my Browning is heavy but that does tame the recoil a bit. It just feels "heavier" on the 500 + bird of a 700 bird event. I can and have shot good scores with my Browning, but as we have stated before one more broken bird can mean a lot.

Well if I had 4 grand I would buy one tomorrow....but right now that is too much for me. ( kids, house reno's....etc use it up fast) I think I could make a used one work though.

It's a chore just to lift the Browning. Let alone shoot it. I heard a guy in the gun shop say "it's like shouldering a pig on a shovel".

If you are the thin wrist type, then I can understand why you would have trouble shouldering a trap gun, especially with your bad shoulder? Better get in shape boy! Start with those wrists!

Now now lets not turn this into the anti-Browning thread. I am 5' 8", 170lbs after a good meal and I can shoot my Browning XT trap (32" barrels) just fine over a 700 bird event. I have even WON ( amazing given my weak mental game) my class twice. Further to this, the 2005 BC singles champ from my club won the event using a Browning Trap O/U and he is my size but 25 years older.

As well there is a fella at my club who has been shooting trap every year since 1963 and he is 65 this past year. He has more buckles, trophies and PITA all stars than I could ever hope or live long enough to accomplish. His words are that he has won more events shooting a Browning, whether it be his ultra XT, BT 99, BT 100 or numerious older Brownings than any other gun. Now I will give you that he is a good 6' + and at least 250 lbs. With his talent he could use a sling shot and still win

I am not cute enough to be a model for anything and most of my trap is behind me, and my cynergy is a sporting version but if I were to start shooting trap again I would go for a....

Ljutic mono and for doubles a
MX8 double.

I do not like combos

but til I found the right ones, I would do O.K. with any browning trap version.

jacky, No matter what the breed, fit is the most important. The truth is that I like Beretta o/u guns, but I have never got one that fit me well and in recent years I am not competative enough to invest in a custom stock. Off the rack, most browning o/us work better for me, but my next gun is going to be an auto.

It looks like a field gun to me, but what do i know. I aquired a berretta 682 Essentials. Must be a european model because I have never seen one before. It has an open space between the Barrels like a 3200 remington. I suppose to save weight. nice to handle but with factory light trap loads it is very unpleasent to shoot does anybody have any ideas on reducing the recoil besides selling it. as I would like to give it to a lady friend. It points nice shoots where i want it but my shoulder says use the Win 101.

Jacky ... it IS a Trap gun ... once you raise the comb to where you can actually use it, the stock functions in the same manner as does a standard "Monte Carlo" Trap Stock... drop at comb, drop at heel and more drop at the very back end .. just like a Monte Carlo.

With the Optima bore barrel/long forcing cone, I think you'll find it a very comfortable gun to shoot. Ahmed Al-Maktoum, a member of Dubai's ruling family used an adjustable-stocked 682 Gold E to win Olympic Gold at Men's Double Trap in Athens in 2004.

Why is it different than Kenny's gun ?? What is the idea behinf the "dropped " angled butt stock ???

I've been shooting a 682 gold E X trap gun like Kenny's for around 3 years. As I recall in the available info at the time the E X with the high rib was designed for the ATA style of trap, and the low rib E was for international, though I thought I saw a picture of Al-Maktoum holding the E X version after he won the gold. I find it a bit thick in the wrist too but I got used to it. No worries about having to sleep on the couch. My wife bought it for me for Christmas.
