I used to have a savage model 10 le2b and do miss LR target rifles. Looking at getting back into the game and notice theres alot of choices these days. I have a few questions to throw out there and asking for some guidance.

First im looking at a rifle that will shoot sub moa. One with a decent stock. I just noticed the new howa 1500 krg bravo which looks great, but no idea if it will make an apperance in canada. The bergara looks promising as well. Anyone take these rifles out for a spin?

Chamberings i would want is 308 but all these rifles seem to offer 6.5creedmor as well. I dont know much about this round just seen the memes. Which is a wiser choice. Factors being barrel life, brass life for reloading, bullet avail, price, accuracy.

Im not sold on these 3 they just have peaked my interest.

Budget is 1500 for rifle only.

308 win for barrel life.
Both accurate to mid range. 6.5 getting the nod for extended range.
Reloading is probably similar, except the 6.5 likely takes less powder. ( don't own a 308 )
6.5 has less recoil.
I have a Savage Stealth in 6.5. Great rifle.

I think most savages and really almost all other brands are over 1500 for the new version of ergonomically friendly precision rifles. Not by much though.

I handled and looked at the Bergara b14 HMR. It is good for its price. The stock cheek piece seems slim and very hard. Dont know how long Id want my face with the weight of my head on it.

I have used a few chassis systems. Magpuls, MDT many times in diffrent configs and with different butt stock options, Ruger Precision rifle.

I picked up a Weatherby VAC for 1300... Weatherby guarantees moa or better with match ammo. So you know you will get a shooter. They also have a nice adjustable 2 stage trigger. Ive owned two now and both are amazing! The VAC stands for the Vanguard Adaptive Composite. It has a GRS Berserk stock with I can say is the most comfortable chassis ive ever had the pleasure of getting my mitts on. I can say the GRS Stock is my favorite material. It is a nice thick cheek piece. Squishy and has lots of grip. Doesn't hurt my face to rest on for a long period of time. The palm swell is absolutely outstanding. I love it! Quick adjustments. Good grip. Super comfortable. Only down side is no detach mag, but that can be changed with a legacy kit.

Picked mine up for 1300. They are regular right around 1500.

I'm in a similar position. I'm looking to get into the LR game and the Bergara looks pretty nice. Also debating 308 vs 6.5 (I reload).

Gonna try follow this thread and I'll post anything I find that is relevant in my research as well

Myself just ordered a new barrel for my savage 10tr factory calibered 308.
Ordered 308 since i don't compete.
And... a military range not far from home, where clinics, courses and matches are held, don't want to see 6.5CM on their range.
If that range allowed 6.5CM, i probably would of been with it, even though i'd have to retool for reloading.

At least if i get an AR10 style 308 rifle, my reload process will be easy to transition from bolt to auto.
Just add a FLS die and a crimp die and i'll be golden.

OP, even though i'm a huge savage fan, in your position id get HOWA i hear great stuff about them.
As purchasing savage and then a decent chassis, will bust budget.

Exactly. If there were barreled actions that were decent enough, i might think about it. I have read good things on the bedaga brand, and same with howa. I have watched youtube videos of both hitting 1000yds with decent groups. Like i said above it mighe be a pipedream to think the lowa krg bravo will be offered here. And with a 1200mrsp..doubt it would be under 1500. The bedaga b14 hmr is 980usd yet 1500 here.

forgot to add my weather is in 6.5

Howa is nice but I think their chassis system rifles are over 1500 after the show up in canada ect ect

I feel like howa and weatherby are under rated in the long range game.

Personal bias aside... Match 2 stage trigger. Heavy free floated barrel. Good action, nice bolt. Threaded heavy barrel. The VAC being shipped out with the berserk stock also. Superb.

Accuracy guarantee is my favorite point.

I have no bias. I acutally have a mark v ultralight chambered in 300wby and shoots sub at 100 with weathwrby select. Costs 120.00 for 40 rounds so i got into reloading.

Weatherby makes great rifles but parts/stocks dont have a huge following as others do. Weatherby does have a tactical but is out of the price range. Im leaning more toward bedaga for some reason but fighting it just im case i overlooked some key points.

Have you at all looked into the Savage 10BA Stealth? I have not owned or shot one, tho my Savage 10TR has supplied and surprised me with its performance. I cannot imagine quality or performance being lost with time. One of the next rifles on the list and pretty much an all in one chassis/action package, check it out.

If you not big into having a chassis, I would try a Savage 10TR or the Howa 1500.

Good luck!

Handle it once or twice before ordering. I think it is REALLY good for its price. I just felt that for 100 bucks more maybe something a tad more comfortable.

Honestly if on a budget, id go this way... 10TR are great rifles, get a 15 dollar cheek piece to strap onto the stock and you will be solid.

Prophet River said they can get any Howa into Canada.

Irunguns also carries Howa so I think you can probably get a Howa Bravo without to much work.

Dante Sports in Montreal have the Weatherby VAC with the GRS stock for $1399. I would buy it but I don't need another 308.

For your stated price point I would give serious consideration to the Tikka CTR, it has proven accuracy and a great trigger and mag system and all under budget. I have several Tikka rifles and they all shoot incredibly well. I have not played yet with the new stock design of the T3X, but it is apparently a modular system that allows different grip angles and cheek heights so it should be adjustable enough to fit just about anyone. Available in both 308 and 6.5CM so you have choices, 308 winning the availability and price argument, but the CM comes in a very close second and I would be surprised if it takes over the availability spot soon as many ammo manufacturers seem to be favouring it lately.

I've recently picked up a Bergara HMR 14 in 6.5 CM. Amazing gun for the money! Topped it with a SWFA SS 3-15x42 and I love it. Nobody will try this gun and not be impressed with the quality, precision and features for the money. Look at the reviews and then go out and buy one...you won't regret it. Just started load development and getting 3/8 MOA.
