Looking at a Bergara BXR to kick off the spring gopher shooting season with and I see that it has a 30 MOA Picatinny rail built into the receiver. It obviously has the long range shooter in mind but I'm wondering if you can get a scope with a 1 inch tube or 30 mm tube to zero on a close target, say typical gopher shooting distance such as 40 yards or so. I'd shoot it at longer ranges also but if one is unable to zero it at close range then it's kind of a non-starter for me. Anyone have experience with these rifles?

Definitely a more reasonable option, can make it a 0/10/20 MOA cant with whatever scope you choose to mount and not sweat running out of adjustment as fast if you do decide to go close/long range.
 
I zeroed mine at 50 yards no problem, this is with a Elite tactical 2.5-16x42 scope that has 80moa of elevation adjustment

Ive got BXR with a Vortex Viper 4-12x40, pretty sure it's a 1" tube. It has the parallax adjustment... Anyways, I have dialled in for 60 yards Im Pretty sure, it might even be 50 with some weaver style low rings. I can't see why you couldn't dial it to 40 yards, I would have bored sighted mine and 25 yards and got it close then went out to 50 or 60 and zeroed it.

You could call O'Dell and ask them how small of a scope you could get away with and still be functional close up. I didn't even notice the cant on the pic rail until I went and grabbed mine from the gun safe to look after I read your post.
 
30 moa is pretty easy to overcome with most any scope for a 50 zero, even a cheap Neos has 80 available

I'd like to try a BXR and really wring it out for accuracy, have not seen any reports

Until you have it and then start playing at 60 then 70 then 80 then........ )
Can't say I've heard anyone complain about 'too much angle'

I have a 30moa rail on my Tika and use a Bushnell Match pro @50y zero. I believe there's 4mrad or so for me to go up anyway. I needed the extra can't in order to be able to dial out to 300y - unneccesary, honestly but I was bored and found a rail for $30.
