Worked up a pretty nice load with my 300WM using these bullets, H1000, Fed215M, a new Kreiger 1-10 twist at 27 1/2" on a Win mod 70 action, mpi stock, pillered bedding, Wonder Optics scope. First thing I noticed was the velociies were considerably higher than the load data. Over 2900 with the starting load. No pressure signs throughout. Settled on 75.8/76.0/76.2 all clumped under a minute. Got 76.0 and 76.2 at .6 and .7moa 3 shot groups at 300yds. Now all testing was with the bullets just touching the lands as Berger suggests. Velocity for these loads was avg. 2982fps. Definatly up there but as I say no pressure signs, miked the web, no sticky bolt lift, no extractor marks very slight primer flattening. Has anyone found an improvement with these bullets by jamming or jumping them?

Basically, Berger says that you should load 24 rounds at the following COAL:
1. .010″ into (touching) the lands (jam) 6 rounds
2. .040″ off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
3. .080″ off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
4. .120″ off the lands (jump) 6 rounds

And then determine which one works best for you.

Hornady strongly recommends at least .020" - .040" off the lands to insure reliable feeding and protect against a pressure spike when seating touching the lands.

Your muzzle velocity increased by 3% when the bullets were seated on the lands so pressure must have risen at least by 6-7%!

As a note, Berger just released 230gr Hybrid Tactical which are optimized to be magazine feed in 300 Win Mag. Hybrid bullets are tangent at the start of the ogive and then become secant, this means that they have very high BC while being far less sensitive to seating depth.

lol honestly though, iv'e shot bergers out of a few guns and it varies with the gun. 2 love them jammed and 1 likes em .120 off. another one i shoot for a friend (30 cal) likes em .20 off the lands.
 
Not related to your jump or jam question, but when I first started working loads for my new Krieger I found high velocities as well(tight chamber, longer barrel) Some of my loads are below minimum's in the manuals and still have good velocities.

I don't mind using less powder at all.

As for Bergers, my 7mm prefers SMK's
 
Figured Id ask as with a barrel life of 12-1500rds or so no sense trying to reinvent the wheel when many have tried something and found minimal to no improvement. Went out today with 76.1gr H1000 touching the lands. Once velocity stabilized it was shooting under an inch at 300yds, in the .2 and .3moa. Then it got quite hot out and groups opened right up to the 1.1 and 1.2moa. Thats all I can figure out anyway.
