Berger hunting vs target VLDs

I shoot either variety, but neither at any big game, only targets.
There are far too many superior true "hunting" bullets out there.

For closer range hunting I agree true "hunting" bullets are usually the best bet. However many of the true "hunting" bullets fail miserably at long range.
To choose the correct projectile for the intended use is the key.

I used hunting VLD's on Caribou last year. They were great over 400 yards, but I wouldn't use them again under 200 yards. There was no expansion under 200. It didn't make sense at all, but others experienced the same effects. I would have the the opposite were to occur

I would like to try the 338 berger 300 gr. elite hunters on moose this fall but so far I can only find the heavier jacketed Berger Tactical bullet in that caliber and weight.
