I have a question that I have been unable to find an answer for in my reloading manuals,I want to try berger match bullets in my 270-308 but don't have any load data ,I presently am shooting Horn 130 gr SST's with 45.4 gr. of IMR 4350 ,if I back off 10 % to say 40 or 41 grains of same powder does this sound reasonable ,I know I read this info someplace but can't seem find it , I have had a couple of over loads developing loads and would not want any others as it gums up the action too much and I have been fortunate so far not to injure myself other than my pride. Any help would be much appreciated .Thanks -John

Contact Walt Berger (bergerltd@aol.com), give him all your info including cal. , what bullet your using and powders on hand and he will send you the official load data.
I just match bore size, case capacity and bullet weight to get a ball park load. However, there does not seem to be a 270 cartridge that has close to the 56 grains capacity that a .308 has. Another poorer approach is to get close in bore size. Your 270-08 would be between the 7mm-08 and 6.5x 55 Swede. So you could potentially look at the same bullet weights in each of these two, and split the difference. The only slight complicating factor is that Swede loads tend to be about 5% light due to the lower pressure ratings of the older military actions. So to be more accurate you could use this split the difference method, but ratio up the Swede by 5% first. Obviously this is a very rough method and you would want to start low, and carefully work up.
Thanks Rob AKA but I think I'll pass on that idea as my last attempt to do that ended up with a trip to my gunsmith ,luckily no major damage but I don't know how many more mistakes my browning BLR can take ,never mind all that black stuff on my face and safety glasses.
