Jim, that is a little like the DCRA schedule, confusing, what days and matches do we (F class) shoot. Guess I need a NRA membership and finally do I pick my class or do they seeing as this would be my first time.

Bob, you will be classed as a Master for your first match if you do not presently have a NRA Classification and you do need a NRA membership. The actual days of competition are Wednesday to Sunday inclusive, matches are set up so TR shoot at one end and F at the other at the same time. Those that do not shoot the team on Thursday get to practice for $12.00 but I am sure you will end up on a team, there are always make up teams. The wind clinic on Tuesday is worth attending though, there was demos of wind calling by some of the best and I believe we got to shoot in the afternoon briefly, last year Bryan Litz also put on a session about bullet design. In addtion to the prizes listed last year there was a door prize table. Top prize was a Nightforce scope, I came home with a very nice Hodgdon back pack designed with removable pouches for just about everything.

Last year we got to shoot a 500 yard local match at the Phoenix Rod and Gun club the Saturday before the Berger match. It was definitely a "warm up" match after leaving Winnipeg in late January. Check the Desert Sharpshooters site as things get closer. They post local matches at the three ranges, Rio De Salado, Phoenix Rod and Gun and Ben Avery. I plan on making it there a little early to get in on a local match and will be staying there for February competing or praticing wherever I can. If you are looking for a place to stay keep in mind the location of Ben Avery, it can be a long daily commute depending where you are in Phoenix.

If you do stay in a motel, stay at one in Anthem. It is about 10 to 15 minutes north of the range on I17. Some folks that have stayed in motels in north Phoenix have had problems with vehicle break-ins. However, the better restaurants are in Phoenix. If time is a factor (as Jim mentioned), you can practise alongside the Palma team event on Thursday, and be ready to go for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

FYI,
If you are going to the Berger Matches in Phoenix, the Hampton Inn in Anthem, AZ now has a special $84/night rate if you call and tell them you want the Ben Avery Range rate. Closest motel to range. A nice place, good reputation. Don't wait too long. 1-623-465-7979 or 1-866-690-7291

Fwiw if you are flying down, check flights into Vegas, usually a lot cheaper than flying into Phoenix, pick up the rental car there, also usually cheaper than Phoenix (unlimited mileage) and then drive down to Phoenix, direct route (hwy 93) is about 6 hour and scenic, longer trip through Flagstaff and then Sedona is about 8 hours but an awesome drive.

I will be back next weekend. Nothing going on, Wheelgun, I will stop and say hi along with any other Cdns that are there. Shouldn't be hard to spot.
