Berrys 124gr plated HP's

I just got some off a fellow CGNer and tried to load them, but looks like I have to keep the OAL pretty short or it wont chamber in some guns - 1.033" pretty short, but being a HP it does have tall 'shoulders' so I can see why.

Anyone use them? what OAL did you load? and with what powder?
 
That is pretty darn short, considering I load XTPs to 1.100 and they load and function just fine.
These are plated bullets though so they shouldn't give you any crazy pressures as long as your reasonable with charges.
Hornadies manual lists XTPs at 1.060 for use in the SW39 and such but that's with a smaller charge.
I would reduce my charge accordingly if I was loading that short.
 
I'm using IMR 800X which is very low pressure 26,000 PSI with 5gr. That's why I'm thinking I should be able to get away with that. I loaded 20 rounds with 4.7gr to try it out and will watch for sights of overpressure.

Edit: I measured the bullet and it's only 0.554" long, Berrys 147gr I was using before are 0.0667"

Don't have any 124gr RN bullets left but can anyone tell me what the OAL would be?
 
The Berry HP feding problems are well known to Berry. They are going to be releasing a new version fairly soon. I dont remember the exact date but I had read that on another site. And the new ones are designed to expand as well. I have the picture of the nice flower they make and it looks pretty mean lol.
 
well seeing as how im the guy you got them off of, i should offer some "customer support"

i was shooting them out of a HK P30L

i had problems with feeding as you said but was able to fix this by reducing the O.A.L. to 1.10" i could go +/- .05" without having any problems


i ended up using 3.6grains of Clays

after i dropped the O.A.L. i had no problems cycling rounds (ran about 100 thru with no problems)

No reason they shouldn't!
I might actually pick up 1000 of these even though I practice with the 124gr RN It'd be nice to actually have something versatile and cheap, In case I get a NR 9mm carbine.

Well the cats out of the bag, those are pic's I took from a night of good testing results. We are in the process of trying to get the slower velocities to open as well as the higher velocities. Our release date is for the first of the year but will have production pieces going out to a couple of our larger OEM customers for testing in the next month. Starting with the .45 caliber and then moving to .40 followed by the 9mm

It was posted October 4 / '11 so they may be out already but I havent looked
