Is anyone using the Berry's 350 grain plated projectiles in their 500 S&W? What velocity are you shooting them at and how is the accuracy and quality of the projectile? Same goes for the 240 grain in a 44 magnum. Anyone using them? I'd like to buy a bunch but need some input on their performance first. I tried a search on these topics but I keep coming up empty handed on the mobile version of CGN. Thanks.

350gn are triple plated, rated to 2000fps. Shoot them with 42gn Lil'gun and H110 along with 18gn Titegroup. Shoot fine, makes a nice big hole in the paper. Accuracy wise I'm all over the place even with HDY XTP bullets, just can't control that massive recoil.

240gn are rated for only 1250fps, way below the min of ~1400 for Lil'gun and H110 so haven't tried it, would appreciate anyone who has please speak up.
XTP with 24gn H110 works nicely in my 629.

I'd want at least 1700 fps out of the 350's and 1300+(ish) out of the 240 ' s. I too love using the XTP's but in the case of the 500 they are about a buck a piece. I'm not scared to pay that much but if I can find a cheaper alternative then why not go for it.

The berry 350 grain are what I use in the 500. The only complaint I have with them using a mag powder I needed to crimp them over the ogive rater than where they are supposed to be. They just don't have enough bullet in the case for any consistent results. They would also loosen up if you fill it up and shoot a few. Solved this by crimping them deep on the ogive.

out of curiosity how often do you shoot your 500 with tightgroup? i've read from john ross to stay away from that powder with the 500 mag. i'm normally not one to be scared of things like that, but i just use trailboss for light loads in the 500.

Shot around 100 rnds from 11 to 18gn of TG but mostly 16.5gn. Won't be loading anymore after my last 20 is done as I don't like the snappiest of TG. It is scary how little TG fills the case. Will look for another powder like trailboss for light loads though not sure if I'll bother anymore with light 500 loads, seems to defeat the purpose of 500. Might as well shoot my 686 or 629.

Read that John Ross thread before, pretty inconclusive on TG.

What are you using for full load? I like Lil-gun more than H110, LG seems to be less snappy than H110. Wonder if LG is slower burning powder than H110.

for full house loads it's the same powders, h110 seems to be closer to hornady factory ammo then lilgun but i find lilgun has the most kick. i also like 4227, 2400 and 4759 for medium to full house loads. i've also tried 4198, longshot, and benchmark with it but they leave powder behind. bullet weights are from 350gr-700gr cast.
