Hey Folks,

I’m looking at purchasing one of these two pistols to get started into IPSC but haven’t been able to locate any locally to try out. Does anyone have experience with both? I want to know if the improvements in the TPR9 are worth holding out for when all I can seem to find for sale are T9P’s. The only really attractive feature of the TPR9 is the shorter trigger reset but is the difference significant enough that it’s even perceivable when shooting? Alloy frame and added serrations don’t do much for me. My hands are at least average size so the slimmer grip isn’t a must-have either.

The original Thunder Pro has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I picked up one of the last ones available in Canada. I was so impressed with it that I also acquired the new TPR9 (Thunder Pro Redesign). The new model is every bit as reliable and well built as the original. I got it just as the pandemic was shutting everything down, so I will be looking forward to running it at the range. For the price you are getting a lot of value in a well made firearm. You won't regret it. You will need to get a separate holster from the Thunder Pro due to the design differences in the dust cover.

Hey Kopanoak, thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear from someone that has both.

Do you prefer one over the other? I'd be happy to supply some ammo if you felt like meeting up at a range! Would love to try both out before buying one.

I have experience with neither but I'd get the TPR9 at the drop of a hat!
The upgrades, the FDE version and the rave reviews have sold me on it in the next shipment:

I also wish they made a .22lr version of the TPR9.
Ideal TPR9 would be the FDE in compact, with a threaded barrel and optics ready.

Since the Thunder pro is discontinued, I assume you’ll be going used ? Would also love to fire the TPR9, looks like quite the bang for your buck.

I always go used - never bought a brand new firearm in my life haha. I haven’t seen any used TPR9’s on EE so that’ll probably have to be a NIB purchase.

Calibre Magazine just had a whole spread on these two. Try to find a copy of you can.

Paul - do you happen to have to volume/issue number of that Calibre mag containing the article referenced? I went through my stack of issues and didn't see it. Maybe it's truly the most current edition that hasn't yet made it to my mailbox?

The TPR9 uses SIG sights so quality tritium sights can be swapped.
Edit: just checked the Bersa website

Tactical Imports said they don’t have plans to bring in the TRR9XT since the sales of the original XT were flat. IIRC they sold of their remaining XTs at a pretty considerable discount - around $700 out the door possibly. I want the frame rail so unfortunately the XT is a no-go for me, which is a shame because I’ve heard it’s quite the shooter.
