Hi guys I just bought a Berthier 1907/15 rifle and noticed it was not made at the St Etienne arsenal but was made at Etts St Continsoura. Anybody heard of this ? Thanks

I think that Continsouza only made receiver, St-Etienne made other parts and also complete rifle.

Pierre-Victor Continsouza was one of the early pioneers of the design, development and manufacture of motion-picture equipment.

His company, the Etablissements Continsouza, was in Tulle, which already had been an arms-making town for more than a century.

They were one of the contractors for the Berthier rifle during the Great War, although their rifles are not often seen here.

I have a couple of these rifles, a Saint-Etienne and a Chatellerault....... but no Continsouza, Delaunay-Belleville or Remington.

Like all French equipment of the period, they combine best materials and finest workmanship with a completely-wonky design.

Trade-Ex has the brass, friend JP on this forum has the special 3-shot CLIPS, everybody (including Lee) make the dies, any midrange rifle powder will work.

These can be fun rifles and they can be much more accurate than that strange design might suggest.

Always remember: NO SAFETY.

And do have fun.

I believe Continsouza only made receivers during the great war but it is quite possible they assembled complete rifles from parts provided by other arsenals.

Continsouza and Delaunay-Belleville (automobile manufacturer) only made receivers. The receivers were delivered to the French Government Arsenals and then assembled into complete rifles.

That certainly makes sense, one way to see that is to look at the barrel code for the associated rifle and see if you notice "MA T, P, S, or C" beside the date stamp of a rifle with a Continsouza made receiver. The date of barrel make and the maker code will give a good indication where and when the rifle was put together.

Did you get that Berthier at recent Orangeville or Jerseyville show? Check muzzle end-3/4 of an inch of rifling is gone due to cleaning rod.

Just saying :)

Yes I did but I don`t care. It`s just one of those rifles I had to have. I don`t reload (yet) so I wasn`t really expecting to shoot it anyway (like the other one I have) , but thanks for the info. Cheers
