I just in the process of working up some loads and received a batch of new Bertram 43 Mauser brass. I have read on a few internet sites albeit with some fairly dated posts that this brass has a propensity to split even after the first firing unless it's anealed. All of the brass I received already have the remnant discoloration of anealing present on the shoulder. Do I need to aneal it again(neck?). Anyone have experience with this brass? Thanks

I have found this to be very true. I've mostly used the bigger calibers (40-82, 45-90 and 50-110 etc.) and by the time I figured it out there wasn't much left to anneal. Original black powder loaded Winchester brass last longer but who knows, they could have improved lately but I still avoid like the plague unless it's the only choice, or free
All brass is annealed, but most is the polished before it's sold. This brass in particular (and Starline for example) tends to be hard, and will benefit from another round of annealing - the entire neck (it's long) and the top 1/4" of the shoulder. If you don't anneal it, it might split or it might not - if you do, it won't.
