Best 1911 for the $$$

Hi folks I'm looking into getting a 1911 and don't know much about them. I'm wondering what the best 1911 is for the dollar. Let's say $750 or less, 750-1000 and 1000 to 1400 for three categories if need be, I'm not going to be plunking 4k down so let's not include the high end. I'm aware China is the reason out economy is so f****d up, so I'm not real keen on buying norinco,
 
Don't be so hard on Norinco. It would feel right at home at your place. It's likely made up of about 90% Chinese products, just like everyone elses.;)
 
I will take a look at the sig and rock island. I have been looking at the rem r1, ruger sr1911 and Sam 1911 so far. I read the stickied 1911 article and I think I'm in mental overload.
 
I have a SAM 1911 military enhanced for mid $500 and so far it has been rock solid. However be careful cause I am having a hard time finding sights that will replace the ones on it. I would like to try a red dot on it but apparently no base will fit.
 
I think the rock island, Sam and sti of similar price ranges are all built in the same factory in the Philippines. I will look into it more though. I really like that the r1 is made in the USA, as long as it is actually. Made in the USA and not just assembled. I haven't yet had a chance to look into the ruger sr1911
 
SAM is a separate company, RIA is just your Armscor rebranded, STI Spartan frame and slide and barrel is made by Armscor to their specs, small parts are STI.
