Best 1911 in .45 around $1000 ??

If the external extractor doesn't bug you too much, the Sig 1911 XO is the best 1911 you can buy for $1000. We have one on the line at Target Sports and it's still tight and accurate after several tens of thousands of rounds. I'd trust my life with one and it'd be a family heirloom with the way it's made.

SAMs are ok, just don't like it that they are a little off mil spec. Doesn't fit my holster as its too wide, some parts require more fitting than usual for drop in components, etc.... after a few hundred in mods and fitting they are ok, but if yiu are going to do that why not start with a decent pistol?

^ agreed

I've gotten out of the notion of bargain brand shopping, and if I buy something that is cheap is as cheap does it is with eyes wide open.

I had no preconceived notions about my norc. I bought it for $250 from canam. Its surprisingly decent, but it is a cheap pistol that I bought because it was cheap and I had a notion to see what I could make of it without spending any money on it, knowing I could flip it without taking a bath on it if I get tired of it.

As for the Ruger having a Just Right sort of fit... It really does. I had to #### with the slide stop on my Trojan just so that I could insert it without gouging the frame. The plunger tube also had a burr at the front, making that part very sticky. Very poor attention to the little details for a costly pistol. My current shooters arms gun I had to file the take down notch on the slide to enlarge it to the point where the stop could be removed without finding the exact contortion required to remove it.

If I was to buy anything today, without having ever owned them before, I'd go Colt, for the classic look, S&W performance centre, for the semi custom, or SIG, for the reputation and different-than-the-rest styling.

Of my current pistols only the Ruger is safe from being sold along. It was my first 1911 and it is just right. That means the shooters arms, the norc, the Remington, and even the Trojan would go first, for various reasons.

Mark,

The spartan I got from you is a fine shooter.

I'm glad to hear it :)

Honestly that and the Omega I had were both nice (the omega needed work but I never touched the STI). Both were hands above my current and last 9mm the I honestly bought because of the LPA sights more than for any other reason.

The Trojan is also a very good shooter. It's just not really the style that I like, and there were the annoying little fitment problems.

Again, I mostly bought it for the target sights and because it was both on sale and had a good reputation.

It took me a few guns and a few years to find out what features I like and what I don't care for. 9mm seems to be the chief one lol!

I think the CZ spoiled me

The OP has to recognize, I think, that he's likely to buy and sell a few pistols before he finds his true 1911 as well ;)

I do perfer the classic look. But not a total deal breaker. Man I must be blind. I'm a member at the Grange and I don't ever recall seeing a 1911 to take out. I'd love to take an XO for a spin.

NIB Colt Government Model .45 (01991) Blued ..... Arms East has one for $1,150.00 NIB ....but has Series 80 firing system(big deal). For 1K it's the Best Classic 1911 you'll ever find. F@Ck a Spartan lol, get a Genuine Colt 1911 in blued finish. More classic than CocaCola lol ;)

I bought mine...put Factory Colt gold medallion wood grips on, and light coat of Fritz Polish, with micro fibre cloth, brought out that gorgeous deep blued finish, to lustrous shine ...looks absolutely breathtaking.

Get the Colt 01991 for $1,150.00 NIB from ArmsEast on CGN dealer site.

Haha...well played! I should start telling them my buckmark is a WW2 luger while i'm at it lol. Just skip the 1911 all together.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm interested in the SAMs too but none of the shops in the GTA ever have them. I've never had a chance to get my mits on them. I'd like to inspect the fit and finish. Can anyone comment on the finish of the spartans? whenever I see them on the EE they seem to have a lot of wear.

I can tell u right now, the fit and finish on the SAM's is amazing! Well worth way more then u will pay. Call Brent at Wolverine and he will make sure u are happy! Tell him Silverstein sent ya :)

I find the finish of the Spartan is very delicate. I have a faint idiot scratch(only one I managed to do out of several 1911s) and one other minor blemish on the slide when I allowed a prospective buyer to try it out.
All's well though, as he(good friend) is buying it for $650, and it is in excellent condition(besides stated flaws) with low miles. Accurate with nice sights, needs to be kept clean to remain reliable.
I honestly find the newer Norinco's fit and finish to be at least as good as the SAM's and Spartan's. But I prefer the Norinco's nice, yes I said nice, finish.

I am partial to my Ruger SR1911, but that might be because I got one second hand in as new, unfired condition for $500. I like it so much that when I needed to sell one of my handguns, I ended up selling the CZ 75 Sp-01 Shadow instead of it. Something about the .45 just feels right.

It's definitely there. Next time you're in look, at the .45 section and you'll see it. You'll fall in love pretty quickly!

The bluing and matte black on most STIs are a little light for that matter but STIs are definitely shooter.

Go Sr1911. Solid gun for the money. Only change would be adjustable sights. Not a problem Novak cut, lots to choice from. Gun, sight change, around $1000.00 or less, results-shooter with big silly grin.
