Best 1911 in 9mm

If you find a good used STI in 9mm: buy it.
If you find a good used Springfield in 9mm: buy it.
If you find a good used Colt in 9mm: buy it.

They are all good 1911s. They all use the same parts. They have way more similarities than differences.

Grab a used (not abused) one as a starting point, as you'll probably want to tweak: sights, trigger job, etc anyway (even with a new gun this the case).

For the price point. I really liked the Saraphim line of 1911's. Think of all the ammo that you can buy with the money that you will save.

Had one and like it but didn't get to shoot it because it arrived completely ####ed up so I returned it.

I had a Sti Spartan in 9mm, I liked it very much. It was accurate and reliable.
One day I want to try a Smith 1911 Pro Series 1911 in 9mm.
I also like the Sti Trojan, and Range Master.

Remember, the OP set a $1300 budget. Not sure about the Smith but with the recent price STI increases the Trojan and the Rangemaster are well above that.

edit The Trojan is $2248.00 and i don't see the Rangemaster listed on Freedom's site. Discontinued?

STI makes awesome 9mm 1911s but they have definitely gone up in price. Looks like now would be the time to buy a new one given the sale at Freedom Ventures but they are still 1500-2000 pre tax.

Rangemaster sadly discontinued though a couple still avail from site sponsors. Had one in 45 and loved it.

That's a shame. They built some nice stuff....and were pretty good value (at least until the last big price bump)

My .45 Trojan bought at the Black Friday sale 3 years ago is looking better and better. Wish I'd bought a 9 a couple of years ago when I was thinking about it.

Buy once cry once.
It won't need anything whatsoever to shoot/function and be accurate going forward. Including all of its small hard parts and springs etc.

Really well built and featured 1911 that is a proven performer in accuracy and function.

I suggest stainless so if you want to add adjustable sights you don't have to refinish the gun lowering the final cost of adj sights upgrading.

The Range Officer is a great gun too. They are pretty much the same quality. The Springfields available are selling for a little more that the Colts. I do like having adjustable sights like on the Range Officers so that is another consideration. can"t go wrong with either but Colt is in your budget

You might want to ask Wanstalls what they are actually selling before you plunk your money down.

Well, according to a recent post by North Sylva a DW Valor that is $2012 MRSP in the US is $3916.00 CAD here in Canada.

Must be those special "you're buying a gun in Canada" fees.

Nice. I picked up that same one last spring, and while I don't love 9mm in the 1911 it scratched the itch and it also a nicely appointed pistol.

The Colt Competition is a bit of a sleeper. It's a lot of gun for the price, when you see prices for lesser models in their lineup going higher and higher. My 38 Super is a series 80, but I removed that extra crap the day I got it
