Best 1911 magazines for IPSC

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I just picked up a norinco 1911 as my first restricted and want to get into IPSC competition. Planning to take the black badge course in the near future, but the requirements for the course is that I need at least four magazines.

Now my questions:

I heard good things about Wilson-Roger's magazines on this forum. Where can I get them and how much?

I found some Wilson magazines, but they don't say "rogers" anywhere on the packaging. Am I looking for a specific Wilson magazine?

Should I go for 8 or 10 rounders?

How are Kimber or Chip McCormick mags?

I Have Both McCorimick power 10 and Wilson Comat (Wilson Bureaucrat) I use the McCorimick outdoor and the Wilson indoor. I like them both have had no problems with either both great mags
 
I have both...Wilson's are better as the follower design is bullet proof. Power 10s...they need too be tuned every so often.

Hi;

I've been using Wilson stainless 8rd mags since 1991 without a problem. I agree they have an awesome follower design! My only complaint with my 10rd CMC's is sometimes they do not fit aftermarket mag wells (unless the plastic is shaved a bit) on some Government models.

buy the 10 rounders since in canada the gun does not have to fit into the box with the mags inserted. it doesn't completely level the playing field but it does help.
 
Thanks for the info guys, for the extra "reliability" I'm probabbly gonna go for the Wilson 8-round mags.

4 x 8 round mags would be sufficient for an IPSC course, am i correct?
 
The only problem with going with 10 round mags is the problem I had on the weekend; in the rush (i.e. panic) to clear a stoppage I drove the 10 round mag past the mag catch and into the gun. It took 3 of us, a hammer and brass drift to get the mag out of the gun. After that I switched to good quality 8 rnd Wilsons with no problem. I’m sure most shooters haven’t had this problem, but it’s something to think about.
 
Hmm, all of my 10 rounders have some sort of protrusion that prevents you from shoving the magazine that far up. Take a look at the CMC Power Mags or the Ed Brown 10 round mags.

In fact, almost all the 10 round magazines that I've seen have a similar doohickey.

The 10 round mags help level the playing field.

I've found the Colt, McCormick and Mitchell ten round mags, which are of identical design and appear to have been made by the same manufacturer, to be easier to locate and more affordable when you're looking at an initial layout for 5 mags for a norc owner.
 
Back when CMC and Wilson dropped the 10mm mags from the line up, I was forced into buying Metalform mags.

I was very pleasantly suprised at the quality and price. I'll be buying more for my .38 super and possibly a .22lr Marvel conversion. I see they also offer a slightly extended 10 round .40 S&W mag for the 1911 which should be the cats ass for the STI Trojan owners. They also offer a 9mm mag with a ramp built into the front, instead of a spacer at the back. Sweet!
