Best 1911 make

I have only ever heard good things about Valtro. I have one set aside for me at the local shop and I am looking forward to find out first hand how they are... Any other Valtro owners out there?

Best 1911

I recently purchased a STI Trojan in .45ACP. Having small hands, I went with a single-stacker. After some good instructions from Slavex at the friday night skills and drills, my groups are becoming progressivly smaller! IMHO the stippling helps in maintaining proper gun control. I also like the tight tolerances between the slide and frame. Just my .02c worth.

I have the Springfield. It comes reasonably "well dressed" with skeletonized hammer, very sweet trigger, ambi safety, large beavertail, dovetailed front sight, adjustable Bo-mar rear sight, full length guide rod, cocobola grip panels, etc, etc. I looked at a few 1911s in my price range, and the SA just felt "right". I've put about 2,000 rounds through it without a hiccup, digests everything I've used thus far, and it's accuracy potential exceeds my abilities. IMO, a definite keeper.

Sort of like asking what the best AR is. When you look at the top tier production guns (Kimber, Colt, Springfield, Para etc) they are all within spitting distance, and the 'best' is mostly your personal preference and style. On top of this there are some high-end custom guns, such as the Les Baer and others, for which you pay a premium. Also (like AR's) there are a whole bunch of smaller shops putting out products which may or may not be just as good as the majors. I'm not even going to get into custom built race guns.

There's also some 'economy' guns available, like the Norincos; but you know what you get when you put lipstick on a pig.......:p

Personally, I like the Kimbers. I think they are classy guns, and very high quality. When I was doing my research before purchasing a 1911 I fell in love with the Eclipse, which I own now, and lately I've had my eye on the Warrior.

I really like my Kimber but I've been looking hard at the Nighthawk line of 1911's. They make a beautiful pistol and I've heard a lot of good things about them.
