Well I just picked up a minty colt 1991a1 45 acp that I am going to make a project gun.

I was talking to a few people and they had suggested wilson combat to use for the parts. I wana do the hammer, trigger mainspring housing, beaver tail and a couple other parts. Anyone have any better suggestions as to what manufacturers to use?

Or is wilson a solid choice?

I've always had success with Wilson Combat after market goodies. No nasty surprises. :D Currently, I've been venturing (ha ha get it? Venture as in Freedom Ventures) into my STI Spartan 9mm 1911 single stack from Gunnar at Armco and I am starting to really warm up to STI parts and bits for my 1911 fun.

Best of luck with the 1911 addiction. Now it becomes YOUR gun! ;)

Cheers,
Barney

I am a fan of EGW. I have done work with thier 1911 parts and they are stellar. Cylinder and Slide work well also. The C&S 1911 main spring is a great way to lower trigger pull if you would rather not changing or filing parts (ie Hammer hooks)

You will be hard pressed to find any bad parts from the majors, everyone has their preferences, for me Ed Brown Beavertail and Novak sights are a must, but that is opinion. As for Wilson, well their stuff is right up there as well but as suggested, give Sean at Freedom Ventures a call and look into STI parts, he has them in stock, great prices, great product and he is great to deal with.

I've used Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, and Smith & Alexander.
All 3 are quality pieces but the Wilson Combat parts are usually a little oversized and require a bit of fitting.
The S&A mag guide and mainspring housing had cast in checkering which will need to be cleaned up a little with a pointing file.
The Ed Brown checkering is much nicer.

Now that I'm looking at reviews I'm thinking ed brown...

Here is my list of mods I plan on doing if anyone has input feel free to add:
Hammer
Sear
Main spring housing
Barrel bushing
Beaver tail
Trigger
Main spring sights
Slide stop

Now that's it. When I say things like hammer. I litetally mean just the hammer should I be replacing the hammer spring as well or anything else?

You need one of these:

Do you get raped by shipping and canada customs when shipping from Brownells ?

I'd like to order a complete trigger group for my 1911

I've done a few orders from Brownells. Biggest shipping charge so far was $20. They ship USPS so no duty. So far I only had to pay tax on 3 ruger mags. No tax on the other orders. You can only include $100 US FOR ACTUAL GUN PARTS WITH EACH ORDER, however no limit on the amount of orders. If you email brownells ATTN: Sandy Moranville, she will send you a list of the approved manufactures whose parts they can ship to Canada.

Just ordered the Brownells 1911 and AR/AK catalogs and requested the list of state approved manufactures who can ship to Canada.

My colt was wore out so I added match wilson parts all around. All the parts are nice and tight I had to do some fitting but thats just me I have a thing for tuneing 1911`s
