My Dad and his buddy are in their glory with there new russian SKS's but have no computers. I know nothing about these things so Im asking the experts here.

What is the best avail 20/5 round mag here in Canada? I found tapco mags 3 for 119 but that seems expensive? Does it matter if its a russian built sks or not?

Also, the disassembly screws (look like recoil lugs) on the sides of the stocks have a funny head to them requireing a screw driver with two round pins sticking out in order to remove. Any ideas where they can get a tool to remove these??

Thanks Red Rifle Crew!

Tapco mags all the way.:) Never had any issues with mine. Thats also a GOOD price for 3. If he still has the Wood stock on,..he will have to make a little clearance for the mag to fit. No biggie.

I know nothing about the mags you're after, but I do know about the screws/bolts on the stock. Leave them alone as they're not for disassembly. They merely add strength to the stock at critical points, and have been torqued to required specs at depot level. You mentioned screws, as in more than one. Are there two on each gun? If so this is usually on the laminated stock as the solid Arctic Birch generally has just the one bolt.

The gun comes apart by other means. None of them by threaded fasteners. There's a sticky on the subject.

Hope your dad enjoys the gun. They're a hoot to shoot.

Thanks for the disassembly link. I see now that there is no need to remove the lugs (two in a laminated stock).

He had pulled the bolt out but thats as far as he got, so the further disassembly should get him to where he needs to be.

Thanks guys!

I've been looking into these as well and some poeple like them and others not so much.

So what is the ups and downs of these. Like reliablity, how they perform and the maintenance.

Thanks!
