Best .22 autoloader ammo?

There really is no 'clean' .22 ammo. Remington's stuff is 'dirtier' I suppose, but they all foul badly. Winchester or federal with copper plated bullets tends to reduce the lead fouling, and I've never had to deal with jacket fouling.

I can't say which ammo is the cleanest, since they all foul the same to me. I buy my ammo because of the price mostly. You can't beat the value of a 12$ box of 525-rounds Federal Champion HP at CDN Tire :) That's 2 cents a pop :D...

Accurate, cheap and no more dirty than anything else. Enjoy your 10/22.

My 10-22T is pretty picky. The best by far I have used has been the remington cyclones. Most of the other stuff doesnt eject fast or far enough.

my semis only handle the round nose HP stuff. the truncated bullets simply won`t feed. on the other hand, my two bolt action .22s love the truncated heads.
i loved the winchesterX RNHP in the white box. then i started having a hard time finding it cheap enough.
now i buy the remington "cyclone" HP. they feed great, eject great, accurate, and most important....HOLLOW POINTS for the ground pigs :D

I just bought a Ruger 10/22, haven't put a round through it yet. I was wondering what the cleanest ammo would be to shoot.

Thanks

You want cheap or good? Or both?

The cleanest ones seem to be CCI and Remington isn't bad either.
Federal is more than ok too.

The dirtiest are without any doubt Aguila. They smell funky too. BUT you get awesome velocity and some specialized loads too....

I have shot a lot of copper plated ammo through my 10/22, and after neglecting cleaning for more than a few sessions at the range, I decided to clean it, and was more than surprised at how squeeky clean the barrel was before I even touched it. The stuff that isn't plated, and is just lead is dirty evil stuff though. I tried a little of that, and I instantly saw the difference all over my magazines. If you want to keep it clean, use the copper plated stuff. It's not much more expensive, but clean up is a snap afterwards.

No matter which brand ammo you use, the best thing you can do to ensure reliability is to use something like BreakFree CLP. Powder fouling simply dissolves in it, and it doesn't 'cook' like other oils/lubes. Cleanup is a single swipe with a rag, that's it.

all semi auto rimfire rifles and pistols will have certain brands of ammo that just won't feed or cycle properly. buy a box of every brand that you can fit into your budget, then try a few mags with each one monitoring accuracy and feeding. I got lucky with my 10-22T, it loves winchester wildcat and groups as well as any of the high end target ammo. My gun does not like federal ammo.

Exactly. You won't know what your 10/22 will like until you've tried a box of everything on seperate targets to test groupings. Velocitors or Super Ace might be fine in your rifle, whereas mine might only like Thunderbolts. Best to check 'em all.

That MAY be somewhat true in an untuned factory Semi-auto, but in practically every case, premium ammo will get you better groups. Not necessarily the best functioning, but best target performance. Regards, Eagleye.

Sure, sure. There goes eltorro again, boasting of .22 LR ammo us regular plebes have yet to get our hands on. Sigh...
