Best .22 Bolt Gun

What gun is that second picture of?

And i was just looking for something like the 10/22 but bolt?
Same idea just bolt figure ill go through less rounds with a bolt lol

The 2nd gun is a Cooper model 57M JSR... Available from Prophet River

If you already have a 10/22, you might want to have a look at the Ruger 77/22. They are also 'nice'... and you can it can share magazines with your 10/22 :D

For something just a little more expensive than the 10/22, I kind of like the CZ/BRNO

Me too:)

It sounds to me like you are looking for a "Best Bang For Your Buck" .22 bolt action... in which case I agree with much of the above... get a Savage MKII... and I would recommend the FV-SR model as your best bet for features vs price... I will post a picture of mine below... but I have many Savage rimfire bolts... and a bunch of 10/22 platform guns. If you want a better gun right out of the box and want to spend a little more, then consider a CZ 452 or the newer 455. If you want to spend alot of your money ($1000-$2000) there are many very fine bolt action rimfires available... Anschutz, Cooper etc... but I am thinking that those really expensive guns are not what you are looking for. Another way to go... if you do not have any .22's yet and just want a great plinking gun out to 50 yards or so, is a lever action... they are definitely the most FUN action... I would recommend the standard H001 Henry, or for a little more the H001T (Frontier octagon)... it is a gun that you will never sell. Good Luck.

Where do you get those colorful stocks?

I'm a huge fan of my MkII. Was just at the range with it today ... easily .5" at 50 meters and 1" at 100 meters. I've done better at both distances but these would be averages. I have pics I can post to show the results. For a 300$ rifle I'm quite impressed. It's a bit picky about ammo though, SK+ seems to work best, other stuff not so great.

Just curious, but those with multiple guns to compare, how is the Savage MKII trigger ? I have heard somewhere that they are a bit rough and non-adjustable. I also heard somewhere that the main reason the Savage is so accurate is that the barrels are made by Savage/Anschutz.

The stock is from Boyd's... I will post a link below. Boyd's ships any stock priced under a $100 (most) to Canada. I have dozen's, they are a great company to deal with. As I suggested, the Savage FV-SR dropped into a Boyd`s stock is a very nice little rifle... the scope on the one in the picture is a Mueller APV (4.5-14X 40mm)... and a very nice scope... but since that picture, I have changed the scope to a Hawke Varmint SF 3-12X44mm... the barreled action is also out for work at the moment (barrel and bolt)... that gun was set-up to shoot CCI Quiet LR loads specifically and will be my LOW noise small game rifle (0-50 yards tops, but mostly 10-30 yards on game/ grouse, squirrels and hares). Good Luck.

I had a Sako FinFire several years ago that shot wonderfully.
Fit was a dream too, but for some silly reason I sold it :kickInTheNuts:, then went with a CZ 452 American .22 mag that was a kick to shoot, but it certainly was not a Sako.
The two trade offs where the trigger guard on the CZf:P:2: but the wood made up for that a nice bit of walnut with figure in it.
The Sako fit and finish was very nice , but the wood sucked...palin jane bit of walnut and a plastic magazine.... Then came the A-bolt, good shooter , and the Browning quality was typical of Browning of course others will disagree there.
Both fun to shoot.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Savage imported AnschĂĽtz rifles were available from 1963-1981. Perhaps this is what you're thinking about?

Again touting the MkII ... I just got back from the range and here is my target at 50m, using a Bushnell Legend 5-15, Harris-style bipod, rear bag, and Standard Plus. These .22s can really shoot for the price.

A few of those groups look pretty good, but overall, I would not be all that happy with that kind of accuracy.

All those groups were shot from the same spot (I did not move the bipod). I find it interesting that all the smaller groups are at the bottom left. I went back and forth to that spot too. There must have been something in how I was holding the rifle or how the bipod was tensioned.

As for consistent one hole groups at 50m, I'd love to consistently have those results but for a stock Savage, crappy bipod and "ok" optics, I'll be happy with what I'm getting ... for now.

Those groups are crap probably because of the ammo used. Try CCI standard or Blazers, mine does raggy holes at 50 yards all day long.

The best .22lr rifle for the money is the Savage mk II series, but that doesn't mean it's the 'best' .22lr gun. I'm guessing one of the single shot Anshutz rifles with barrel harmonic dampeners that are attached to a bench would be the most accurate, but I'm not sure if accuracy defines the best. I could go as far as saying that a .22lr combo gun is the best .22lr rifle because you can shoot a moose in the heart with it.
